Dry Campus?

Iv heard students cannot drink in their rooms. But is the whole campus alcohol free?

I am of age, and I would be living off campus. Just wondering.

I went to the open house in October and they said that it is an entirely dry campus, even for students of age.

I don’t think it’s a dry campus. I’m not of age but I know that every year they set up a tent on Eddie’s and serve alcohol to those who are of age- university sponsored.

I don’t understand what the poster means by “dry campus,” as if that might be something unique to Fordham. Every campus in the country has restrictions against drinking. Campuses generally also have some events, that may or may not include students, where invitees of legal age may drink, within a proscribed area such as a tent or a ballroom. If there’s a campus where anyone of any age is allowed to bring alcohol onto the premises and open it,much less drink it, outside of such proscribed events Southey16, I’d be interested in hearing about that. It would be new to me.

It is not a dry campus. A dorm room is not supposed to have alcohol unless all residents are 21. Students over 21 are free to drink in their rooms. Realistically students under 21 drink in their room as well, but need to be quiet enough not to attract the attention of their RA. This is the same rule as my sister has at her (non-Catholic) college. Alcohol is served at some campus events, especially ones for seniors, but you need to present ID to drink. It is also not a problem to get alcohol off campus for those who want.

Its NOT a dry campus. That has never been true. You can tailgate before football games and bring alcohol (must be consumed in the tailgating section and NOT even 5 feet over the line). You can drink in the pub downstairs at halftime and post game basketball games. The Jesuits have alcohol in their dining hall.

I know of so called dry campus schools and believe you me, drinking goes on there as well. One a well known southern school with Baptist connections which professes to be alcohol free is anything but that. Its college. Drinking happens.

Be responsible. Follow the rules.

“I am of age, and I would be living off campus.”

Then don’t sweat it. Host off-campus parties - you will be very popular.

KvotheFan, I am sorry my question wasnt clear enough for you. I was asking if Fordham U is a dry campus (is there absolutly no alcohol allowed on campus). I know there are campuses that have this dry campus policy, there are also tons of campuses that you can freely drink on (or are very lenlent). I was only asking about Fordham’s policy, no need to take what I said and twist it haha.

Everyone else, thank you, some good information. Of course I wouldnt let a dry campus stop me from going to a good school. But it is nice to hear you can drink.

sovereigndebt - you said, “pub downstairs”. Does this mean Fordham has a pub?

Here is a link to the actual policy: [University Alcohol Policy](http://www.fordham.edu/student_affairs/deans_of_students_an/student_handbooks/graduate_guide/university_regulatio/university_alcohol_p_88891.asp).

Yes, its called Dagger John’s. They refurbished it recently and to my knowledge it still serves beer, and perhaps wine.

I know the big thing is being 21 for the big homecoming game as there is a huge tent set up in Eddie’s and it serves alcohol.

It’s really not a “dry” campus. I had to get my D and didn’t realize it was the last home football game and open house. There were a ton of tailgating parties and the tent in the parking lot by the security gate was serving wine. I saw that as I sat in my truck on the line waiting to get in.
It’s as Soverigndebt says above.
