@ttm321, CS majors should be able to qualify at any school. So should chemistry, physics, or other science majors. The PBK inductees at my daughter’s school were from every discipline, and the college’s distribution requirements ensured that everyone had taken the right number of humanities and other courses, so if your GPA was high enough, you’d get in. I don’t know about AP courses at other schools, as D’s school did not give credit for these.
@PurpleTitan Yes, and my alma mater still doesn’t have one. . . . but for him, it was a short hand for “this is a legit institution.” It all worked out.
Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, would be more appropriate for a CS major or anyone in a tech/engineering field.
Working in a scientific field, I can honestly say that I never, ever paid attention to PBK, cum laude, etc when evaluating job applicants or colleagues, and I never, ever heard anyone else pay homage to these societies or honors, either. People care about talent, achievements, knowledge, leadership, people skills, etc. Greek letters or Latin phrases just don’t matter one way or the other.
