DSoc- treansfer

hi all, im a senior in highschool right now and will be attending colby college next fall. cornell was my first choice school and although i didnt get in, i still havent given up hope of attending. Dsoc is the program i want to transfer to and im looking for advice as to how to best prepare to be a competitive applicant(what clubs to join, classes to take, what gpa im probably going to need, etc). also, how much weight are highschool grades given when applying as a sophmore or junior transfer? Any advice that you guys could give would be great!!

p.s. i know people are going to say that i should try to enjoy my experience at colby and not worry so much about trying to transfer... Im sure I will enjoy Colby, but ithaca is the most amazing place i have ever visited and i cant seem to get cornell out of my heart.

p.p.s. sorry about misspelling transfer, i cant fix the thread title

Which college are you looking at to transfer? and what major r u pursuing?

development sociology at cals

he said DSOC which is only available in CALS…

the simplest advice is to go to the DSOC curriculum summary requirements page and make sure you take the same/similar courses at colby…if you have to get permission from an advisor then make sure you print that list out and tell the advisor you plan to transfer…

oh if you’ve admitted to colby you probably have a great chance to transfer as a sophomore! try!

Everything you need to know regarding required coursework for transfer to CALS/DSoc is here (be sure to read them carefully):

[CALS Admissions: Required Preparatory Coursework](http://www.cals.cornell.edu/cals/prospective/admissions/applying/transfer/coursework.cfm?title=Development%20Sociology)

Oh I would suggest you doo all the pre-req courses in which Dewdrop has linked to you. And then write your essay well in advance. Make sure you explicitly explain why CALS is best fit for you.

thanks for your help guys. what about extracurriculars? im not really sure how big a factor they play in transfer admissions.
also, if im not so great at sciences, would it be a good idea to take my science requirements over the summer at a local school?

uh…colby sciences will probably be easier than cornell…

not taking the science courses will hurt your chances…

In terms of extracurriculars, clubs or service projects relating to environmental sustainability or international development and the like would re-emphasize your interest in the major, specifically. But, honestly, as long as you show interest and commitment to the activities you are interested in, that should be enough. I just assume an interest in DSOC = an interest in those kinds of clubs and activities, regardless. :)

thanks for the advice everyone!
