My D is applying for a BFA program in acting, but also has a strong interest in communications. The application allows you to apply as a dual applicant (to the School of Music, Theater, and Dance and at the same time to LSA, where she listed commuicatons as a major). You write the short essays for both schools. We know how competitive it is to get admitted to the BFA program. If she is not admitted to the BFA, but meets the admissions criteria for LSA will they admit her to that school alone, or would she be denied at both? Also -- if she applies early (e.g. October) would they review her application for LSA and give her an admission decision for that school by December, or would she have to wait until after January when she has her audition for the BFA program? Has anyone tried to do this dual approach or can anyone offer advice? Thanks!

Hi, no one ever replied to this thread, but since I now have an answer I figured I'd post in case anyone searches in the future for this info. D was accepted early response to LSA despite not yet having auditioned for the BFA program (audition for this is in February). While she's still interested in the dual major if she's accepted to both, it's nice for her to know she can attend Michigan regardless.
