Dual degree program for music major

Hello! I just applied to a few conservatories majoring in piano performance. I realized that schools like NEC offers dual degree program at tufts/harvard. I wonder if enrolled undergraduates (hopefully I could get in  )can apply to the dual degree program? And if so, do they enroll in the other university as freshmen?
Also, I heard that at MSM you can cross-register at barnard in junior/senior year. Do they have a dual degree program that you can apply to on campus?
This is my first thread, so a big thanks in advance to whoever answer my questions!!!

Many people apply to both conservatory and university for a double degree. And when people get in to the university, they may apply to the conservatory for the double degree program, after their first year. For someone who is at the conservatory, however, I am not sure how it works! I imagine you would have to apply as a transfer.

The double degree programs that are BA/MM like Harvard’s mean you spend most of the first year at Harvard, but take lessons and participate in ensembles at NEC. However, you do a full course load at Harvard. If you start at NEC, I believe you would have to start anew at Harvard …but check and see if any NEC courses are transferable.

Tufts is a BA/BM so a little different, but I would imagine a similar situation where you would have to apply to Tufts as a transfer after a year at NEC. Again, check with Tufts.

Thank you for replying! If I have to apply as a transfer, does it mean I can’t get the BM degree at NEC?

I really think you should ask NEC and Harvard.

You get a MM from NEC at the end of the dual degree program and typically a A.B. from Harvard.

Maybe you could clarify. Do you mean applying as a transfer to Harvard, to NEC, or both? You can enter the NEC part of the double degree as a sophomore.
