Dual Degree SomSci/Business

Hi, I'm interested in the Business/ComSci dual degree program, but I have a few questions:

How rigorous is this program compared to normal concentrations at marshall, will my GPA be taking a blow?

Can you get the accounting degree from leventhal with this dual degree program?

Thanks guys, please tell me anything else you think is useful too regarding this program.

bump 10 char

When do I have to declare my major, or my interest in this program?

guys post please

you mean business/computer science?

yes. the dual degree program here:
[USC Marshall Academics](http://www.marshall.usc.edu/undergradprogram/academics.htm)

are there any prerequisites for this program, like its given by viterbi, but i applied and got into marshall

bump 10char

please answer lol

I’m in this program. Just finished the first year. As majors, especially engineering majors, go, it’s not exceptionally difficult, especially if you have a firm grounding in computer science. Bear in mind, also, that Marshall no longer has concentrations for entering students as they have in the past. Take a look at the new curriculum for details…

I’m almost certain that you can’t switch to accounting and still maintain computer science as a major without fulfilling the requirements that are eliminated from both the business and computer science sides.

One irritating thing about the program (until you correct it) is that you are, by default, not included on any of the Marshall mailing lists. Make sure you visit Marshal Undergraduate Student Services in HOH 200 to correct that.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Thanks,

What classes do you recommend i take in the first year?

You’ll see that it’s fairly regimented. First semester you’ll have a GE or TO class paired with WRIT 140 or CORE 111, BUAD 304, ENGR 102, and CSCI 101. If you want to skip CSCI 101 (if you know C++ at all, skip it), you can go to CSCI 102.

Second semester, you’ll have the next CS class, either CSCI 102 or CSCI 200, another GE (or CORE 112 if you’re in TO), ECON 203 or 205 (micro or macro, your choice), and a math class (MATH 125, MATH 126, or diff eqs, depending on your AP scores). Some people opt to take EE 101 at that point as well, but I signed up for BUAD 104, which is an international commerce class through Marshall that culminates in a weeklong field trip to some other country during spring break or after school ends in May.

That’s about it as far as classes go. If you’re in the WVT Rusch Honors Program, you should definitely sign up for that your first semester and, if it fits, your second semester as well.

Wow thanks for the info
