Another question- how hard is it to get a Dual Degree at Dartmouth, and is it possible to get one in two diverse fields such as economics and computer science engineering?

Chet, I will leave most of this post to other more knowledgeable Dartmouth posters, but when my S was choosing a college one of the attractions of Dartmouth’s engineering program was that it allowed you to more easily have double majors (compared to some more traditional engineering schools.) His interest was more specifically in other Liberal Arts classes and ultimately decided to enroll in a true LAC and next year will be attending Dartmouth as part of a combined degree program. After he is done, he will receive two diplomas, one from his LAC and a second one with the BE (the abet approved degree) from Dartmouth College. The downside of this is that it is going to take him 4.5 years to complete the two degrees thereby costing an additional semester’s worth of tuition. For that second degree he had to choose between Columbia and Dartmouth, but ultimately, even though probably considered less prestigious by many, he still chose Dartmouth because unlike Columbia, he would be able to continue his studies of Chinese and take more electives while still getting a good engineering education with hands on course and lab work. GL in your college selection!
