I've been wondering whether JHU offers dual degree programs between Krieger and Whiting.....i've scoured the whole site, but seen nothing explicit. i'm thinking of doing both international studies and civil eng., which is possible at washU, cornell, in 5yrs max. i'm thinking of applying to JHU, but could anyone please shed more light on the nature of academics there adn the flexibilities available. or is a minor in Krieger possible as well? thanks.

JRock -- they are not call dual degree programs but rather double majors. The Krieger and Whiting schools are not separate schools with separate enrollment/admissions processes. When you enroll as a Hopkins undergraduate you have the opportunity to take classes across both schools no matter what your declared major is.

A double major is possible between civil eng and IR, one that can be done in 4 years you will just have to cut down a bit on electives. The fact that there is no core curriculum and great flexibility available in the acad program at Hopkins makes it easy to double major and/or major and minor.

The term dual degree at Hopkins only stands for a student enrolled both at Hopkins and Peabody - the music conservatory.

Hope that helps.

thanks a mil laxfan04. this has cleared all my confusions about the academic atmosphere at JHU. i will definitely apply!! :)

i've always wondered about the issue. cos on the app and website, i got the impression that the 2 schools were almost separate entities, and the whole thing was fixed. thanks.
