Hello,

I received the RPI medal and needless to say the scholarship along with it. I'm trying to decide whether to go to my local university SUNY Buffalo or RPI. My biggest problem is knowing whether RPI will let me get my MS and BS in 4 years using the scholarship. Thanks.

it really depends on how many credits you come in with. There are also some programs that can give you both an MS and BS in 4/5 years depending on the program. I have friends who are getting a BS in 2 years, 3 years and 4 years, some even 5.

Hookstra, simply call the Admissions office or Registrar to get the real answer. If you do report back here because my son is wondering the same thing. He is going into his 3rd year at RPI and will have only 2 courses remaining senior year. He would like to fill out his schedule with MS level courses and finish his grad degree in one extra semester.

Beyond the consideration of a 3 year path to BS/MS, you owe it to yourself to add another consideration: do you really want to go to your hometown school? You have a choice. UB is good, but you may never get out of the safe cocoon of home if you stay there. RPI isn't exactly the center of great activity, but you will be away from home and enhance your chances of looking at the rest of the world someday. Staying in Buffalo is too comfortable. I live here; I love it; I was transferred here. Most people coming kicking and screaming and leave the same way. But there's a big world out there to explore. My own children will not stay in Buffalo for school. No way!
