Dual Degrees

Hi, I am a member of the class of 2013. I am very interested in doing a dual degree between Wharton and CAS, most likely finance and poli sci. Forgetting the necessary prerequisites to transfer/dual degree, is this even possible. I already have eight cus from AP courses and do not have to take language, economics, or calculus courses. Since AP courses can not count for sector requirements is this possible? What sacrifices will i have to make? Will my requirements be adapted by wharton or cas to complete this plan? Can i study abroad? If anyone is particularly familiar with dual degrees and could comment that would be awesome?

It is possible to graduate in 4 years and go abroad. You might need to take summer. Courses or 6 courses a semester. The easiest major to dual with is math because of the high overlap. I’d suggest talking to an advisor and starting on the path for a dual and evaluating where you are after sophamore year. Most Wharton transfers I know start out dual and switch to just Wharton

thanks… can anybody who has done a dual degree or knows of people who have talk about their experience?

I did a dual degree between SEAS and CAS (CSE and Econ). It’s definitely possible, so the answer to your question is “Yes”. Your AP credit will definitely help (I had IB credit and this was very useful for graduating in 4 years). Sacrifices you will have to make are: take more classes per semester than you average student (i.e., 5.5 or 6 classes per semester), which can certainly hurt your GPA; sacrifice some flexibility and specialization in your studies. For instance, I could’ve taken a lot more of CSE useful electives, or even do submatriculation in CS, had I not done the Econ degree. Conversely, I could’ve taken Econ300 and do a thesis in econ to get honors in econ. Doing the dual made this harder. I didn’t study abroad. You can probably do it, but it may be hard in 4 years. Let me know if you have other questions.
