I recently got a letter from Whitman basically explaining why it's such a great school. I actually kind of like it but I want an engineering degree, which you can only get through the dual-degree program, my question is if I go to whitman and take computer science am I automatically eligible for the dual degree and if I am in the dual degree program will I automatically be accepted to the engineering schools to complete my degree after the three years at Whitman? Also, if I'm not accepted to one of them am I just screwed or what??

Email the admissions office with your questions--and also ask them to put you in touch with some students or faculty as well. I'm sure they will be happy to do that at Whitman. That will give you a clearer sense of how the program works and the student/teacher culture that supports it. They can also tell you about the careers of graduates so you can see how they fit with you plans.

You may want to look at other liberal arts colleges with a similar program (Occidental and Macalester and Carleton all have them I think) to get a sense of how dual degree programs work generally. They can be a great way to get a wonderful undergraduate community experience and a lot of personal research opportunities as an undergraduate--and then move into the technical field, often with a direct line to the graduate program.
