I'm a rising Junior and my school is currently finishing up scheduling for next year. I've been invited to take 3 classes each semester at a nearby university (approximately 3,000 undergrads, so it's somewhat small) in addition to my required schedule. If I take part, I'll be getting 18 credits my Junior year, and another 18 my Senior year. However, my parents and I have some concerns on whether or not these credits will be transferable. Do many schools accept credits from these types of circumstances?

I think it depends what kind of school it is you are taking them at and what type of school you plan on attending for college. I took some at a local community college to help fit the schedule I wanted, but they are not transferring. That being said, I am going to a private, more prestigious college. I have a few friends that their community college credits will transfer to the state school they are going to.

You can always search a college website to find out how they treat AP, IB and in your case DE credits. If you know what colleges you are interested in, just check how they handle it. Or, ask someone at the university where you will take the classes. A college counselor usually knows which classes transfer and which don’t.

It depends. I think that it is specific to each college. I looked into this in high school but never really got a concrete answer. You’re going to have to look at the rules for each individual college. There are some colleges that do not accept it if it was taken for dual credit, however, they will accept it if you were taking it for college credit only, that part I know. But, again, you really need to look at the specific colleges.

I would say go for it though. I did dual enrollment in high school and I loved it. You just need to make sure that you keep up with coarse expectations and not fall behind because these classes will go on your college record permanently.

Feel free to PM if you have more questions. I’d be happy to answer them :)
