Don’t really know what forum for this to be on, so sorry if it’s not the most appropriate, however I am a Junior in high school right now,( will be a senior in a couple days i guess) and for my junior year I decided to take a dual enrollment class offered by my local community college in connection with my high school. I had two semesters, however each semester was a different course, the first semester being focused on computer programming, specifically java, and the 2nd semester more focused on Computer information Systems, so each course was directly related to Computers. I did this because I wanted to see if software engineering is something for me( its not) Anyways the first semester, I was very lazy and ended up getting a C which kinda sucks, but I know that C’s are rather common in college and I was and still am under the impression that this is to be treated as a college class ( more than just AP ). The 2nd semester, which was focused on Computer Information Systems, I put in more effort and ended with an A. Do you think from the college’s perspective that I apply too, the A will make up for the C? I am hoping that if anything they see it as a form of improvement. Also, I am aware that these grades go on a separate transcript from my High School grades, as its on its very own one from my community college? Does that mean I do not have to provide my college transcript as well? Because if So, I would consider not showing it because of the C. I’m looking towards colleges such as Cal Poly Slo, UCSB, UCSD, USC (reach school) if that helps at all.
Apologizing for bad grammar. Typed this really fast, and didn’t read over it.
You have to report that C grade and you will be expected to send the college transcript unless the course is listed on your HS transcript. There is a Clearing House that will have a record of the college course so there is no way to omit it. Having an A in another college course will help.
You need to provide all high school and college records in your college applications.
UCs and CSUs do consider transferable college courses as honors courses for recalculating your GPA for frosh admission. Other colleges may vary on how they are treated.
Do you think that the colleges will see it as some form of improvement/ motivation since the A is in the second semester? Don’t I also get a chance to give my reasoning for a grade or something like that? I got a 4.13 both semesters of sophomore year ( 2 B’s both times in same classes) and for junior year, 4.33 first semester (One B), 4.5 second semester. Now if I am doing the math right, factoring in the college course which wasn’t affecting it before, I will have around a 4.18 first semester and around a 4.56 second semester? That doesn’t seem too bad. How much of an impact do you think it will have on my college admission? thanks in advance.

Each school may do it differently but either way you will have a separate transcript from the college that needs to be requested from the college and sent to schools you apply to. Each college will look at it their own way for both acceptance and how it is utilized once attending.
High schools often do count your college classes into your high school gpa. It depends on your school how they do it. At our high school a college class is the same grading scale as an AP grade. The college grades show up on our high school transcript as well. You would need to ask your own school or look at their program of studies to see how your school treats the grades.
For the UC’s and Cal Poly SLO, your college course grades will be calculated into your CSU/UC GPA if they are considered a-g courses.
Is the class that I took considered a-g? First course was computer programming, second was computer information systems.
You need to look them up on this website to see if they are a-g courses. Mostly likely they will fall under category G for college elective.
