Dual Enrollment is great but maybe not for all....

DE has been a saving grace for my D. Hawaii’s public schools are not known for their rigor, no magnet schools, and we cannot afford private school. We have to pay for the credits and books and don’t know if the credit will transfer to the colleges she is applying to, but the pleasure of taking meaningful classes is worth it.

Her study partner in Microbiology last semester was a grandma. She joked that one of her professors didn’t know her name until the last week of the semester. None of her professors would appreciate an email/call from me discussing how her last exam went. Basically, she is getting to dip her toes into being academically independent.

Second semester starts today, Calculus II, Programming for Engineers, and Physics with Lab. No equivalent classes are available at our local public high school. She is excited to be there, and we can afford it. Would I have preferred she be in a regular high school setting that would challenge her? Absolutely, but the Rolling Stones are right, you can’t always get what you want but she’s finding what she needs.
