I have a scenario for you all. If a student attended university X that accepts all of their dual-enrollment credit that they accumulated over high school, then decided to transfer to university Y, would university Y treat the credit on X’s transcript as the courses taken during dual-enrollment or simply as a course taken at university X when determining credit transferability?
Or more simply, will university Y know that the courses on X’s transcript came from dual-credit?
@“Erin’s Dad” Yes, but on the college transcript will it say whether the credits came from dual-enrollment?
I know for some colleges if the credits were used concurrently to graduate high school they will not accept them (I believe this is the case for me because under contract I has to get my AA in order to graduate HS). I was curious if I would be able to receive credit through my state college (by law they have to accept all my dual-credits), and then transfer these credits AGAIN to an out of state school.
I don’t really think it would be possible, but I have also never heard of this situation (that is why I asked). Also I feel like doing this is sort of like trying to find a “loop-hole” around the credit transfer system. It’s probably immoral for anyone to do this, right?
Where were the dual credits earned? At that university or somewhere else and then transferred in?
If the credits were earned at that university, then an official copy of that university’s transcript will need to be submitted, and the target institution will decide which credits to accept and which ones to reject. If the credits were earned elsewhere, then official copies of transcripts from all of those places will need to be submitted.
If you are planning to transfer, hang onto copies of all course syllabi, course textbooks, and copies of any graded work that is returned to you. You will need those items if you find that you have to petition for credit that you believe you should be awarded.
@happymomof1 Somewhere else then transferred in. Sorry if my question is confusing. If the credits were transferred in from a different college to college X, if I transferred AGAIN to college Y, would the credits just be seen by college Y to come from college X, or would they be seen to come from the college in which I originally took the courses?
From your response it sounds like I would need transcripts from the college in which I took the courses, as well as a transcript from college X (if I were to transfer to Y).
They come from the place where you took the classes. You have to send an official transcript from every place you have studied. Each place decides for itself which credits to accept. It is possible for the credits from A to transfer to B, but not to C. So yes, if you transfer, you might find that you lose a whole bunch of credits.
If this is a concern for you, ask for an early evaluation of all of your transcripts. Some places will do that.
You need to show transcripts from college X and “the college in which [you] originally took the courses” to college Y. College Y will evaluate transfer credit from each college based on courses taken at that college.
Note that the same applies to AP credit. College Y will evaluate it by its own rules, not by what college X gave you for it.
