I know that the common app states that any transcripts from dual enrollment courses should be sent to the colleges to which you apply. However, I'm wondering whether or not this is truly necessary -- I know quite a few people who have been accepted ED or EA to prestigious schools including MIT, Stanford, Yale, CalTech, etc. without ever sending dual enrollment transcripts.

I've taken 13 courses at the local city college, and of those, only a few show up on my high school transcript (since only those were taken to satisfy explicit course requirements). I went ahead and listed the courses that I've taken on the additional info section of the common app, but I suppose it's probably better to be safe than sorry and to go ahead and send the transcript to the schools I applied to, right?

Just wondering what your opinions/experiences have proven.

(And I applied to Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Washington University in St. Louis, Whitman, Lewis & Clark, and a few UC's . . . if it matters. :) )

Yes, it's best to go ahead and send the college transcript. In geek_son's case, all three colleges he applied to (from local state U to highly selective LAC) considered his application incomplete until they received his college transcript.

That's good to know, geek_mom. Was your son applying as a transfer student or as a freshman, though?

He was applying as a freshman, and he had exactly one three-credit college course. It was listed on his high school transcript too, but they wanted the official transcript from the college.

I'll definitely make sure to go ahead and send out my transcript then. Thanks so much for the help!

Sure thing. Make that request tomorrow morning if you can; colleges usually take a while (e.g., a week or so) to process transcript requests. It's ok that the transcript won't be there by the deadline -- but the sooner you get it in, the sooner your application will be complete, and the sooner the admissions folks will review it. Good luck!

Question about DE transcripts!
UF's admission decision is released Feb 13th and I just got my grades. They don't request midyear grades, so I don't know if I should send them my dual enrollment transcript. I'll probably end up there, in which case I would request a final transcript that would include the 2 I still have in progress. That way I can get credit. I would ask the same about FSU but I don't really want to go there.
The same question goes for NYU...

Thanks!
