Next year I will be a junior in high school and I have a GPA of 4.0 and taking SAT next year. I am going to take AP Chem, AP Physics C and Calc III/Linear Algebra (in nearby college-each a semester) through dual enrollment. Our school offers the option of counting dual enrollment credit as a) high school credit b) college credit c)both. I have no idea of what option to chose. If I chose high school credit, it might bring my GPA down. Any suggestions???!
Do you have to choose before you take the class or could you remove it from your high school transcript while keeping it as a college credit?
My school automatically counts it as both since that is the purpose of DE.
Unless the place where you’re duel enrolling is a good college, take the important APs at your HS because generally, DE is seen as having easier classes than APs at HS. That’s what I do. I take the core APs at HS and my electives in DE.
But, that’s just where I am, so it could be different for you.
Good luck with your classes
I think I need to chose it before I take the class. My counselor suggested that I should take more hard core courses in senior year and focus on college apps, SAT/ACT. She said that dual enrollment is a great option in our district, but I need to chose between those options!
Do you know if you have to pay if you do not accept dual enrollment as high school credit? In some districts you do. Also check out who has taught the class previously at the college or call and ask who will be teaching it, then look at rate my prof. Don’t take all reviews as true, but you can tell if there is a consistent good or bad theme. My daughter was able to get an A in stats through DE at a local college and took the high school credit. The reviews on the prof helped. Good luck!
