Dual Enrollment

Hey guys, if I attend Syracuse University, I definitely want to major / minor in Political Science (or Political Philosophy) and Journalism. To do this I believe I would have to do dual enrollment between CAS and Newhouse. Is getting accepted for dual enrollment difficult? I know Newhouse itself is harder than other SU colleges to get accepted to but are only a certain amount of students allowed to dual enrollment etc.? I didn't really get a lot of information from the website so can someone just tell me anything they know about it? Thanks! :)

I'm in Newhouse and holding out until sophomore year to declare my dual because there are different requirements.

Bump. Anyone Else? Jouraynalism, are you required to wait until sophomore year for dual enrollment or can I apply as a freshman applicant? Does anyone know if it is difficult to dual enroll (in terms of admission)? Or would it be easier to apply to CAS and then dual enroll with Newhouse? I have a Syracuse book that I got yesterday and there are only about 1500 undergrads that do this. Thanks for any info.

No, you can go in your freshman year. Um, I think your best bet would be to put Newhouse as your first choice, and CAS as your second if you're gonna do it separately. If you don't make Newhouse, they'll put you in CAS, and I hear that transferring into Newhouse isn't that difficult. I also THINK they lowered the GPA requirement for transfers.

Threekids'kid should be able to help you with a lot of this.

Hey, there! I applied and was accepted to dual enrollment for international relations (CAS) and journalism (Newhouse) as a 2011 freshman.

What you do is this:

Put dual enrollment for your first choice.
Put Newhouse for your second choice.
Put CAS for your third choice.

Easy :].

Of course you would want to put dual enrollment as your first choice (this is not only what you want most, but it is also provides you with the most flexibility, because you can easily drop your major in CAS if you want to)! It doesn't hurt your chances of being admitted to Newhouse or SU in the slightest. If you are not accepted for the dual enrollment program, you will be considered for your second choice. And then if you are not accepted to Newhouse, you will be considered for CAS. All of these decisions are made independently of each other (i.e. you will not be less likely to be accepted to CAS because it was your third choice). There WILL be space on the application for all three; just don't forget anything!

(I planned to double major in IR and journalism, not minor. I'm not sure if dual enrollment is necessary for a minor? Well, somebody else can fill you in on that. I see no harm in applying for dual enrollment and then deciding when you get there what to do, anyway.)
