I am currently thinking about applying to UIUC, UCLA, UCB, UTA, CMU, UCSD, Penn, and USC for computer science. I have heard from a relative who works for Google that by doing a dual major in Finance as well, I will be a step ahead when applying to tech companies (mostly in Silicon Valley) from those who have only a Computer Science degree, as I will also have business/finance background, and would be very helpful to companies. He told me they would start you off with $180k+. However, I wanted to know if this is true. Will 5 years of those assiduous years be beneficial to me? Should I major in both, or major in CS and minor in Finance?

You’ll probably figure it out when you get to university level. I’ve been told that a CS + Econ degree is the best approach. But I’ll probably figure it out when I start college. Don’t stress too much about it before applying. Apply as simply a CS major. Colleges allow adding after you’re admitted
