Hi I've been accepted to the ME department at Berkeley as a junior transfer. I really want to dual major in EECS and ME because I'm interested in mechatronics. I know it will be tough, and I know a lot of you would tell me to pick the one I like and take courses I like in the other or minor in the other. However, I want to do this dual major.
Now, I know that it is possible because I know people that have done it and people that are in the process of doing it. However, they were all accepted as freshman students. I don't know any transfer student who has dual majored in EECS and ME.
I've made the schedule and it could work, however many people in the ME department are telling me that there is a policy that says that transfer students aren't allowed dual major in the college of engineering.
Does anybody about this policy?
Does anyone know anyway I could argue against them or work around them?
Note: Dual major is different from joint major.
Thanks

[Dual Majors ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/majors-minors/dual-majors.html) would be the place to look.

From a practical standpoint, it may be difficult for transfer students who need to “catch up” on lower division requirements for the majors. For EECS, transfer students often need to catch up on some of CS 61A, 61B, 61C, 70 and EE 20N, 40. For ME, you may need to catch up on some of E 7, 10, 28 and ME 40, C85. This can make it more difficult to pack the upper division courses for both majors into four (or possibly five) semesters after transfer.

Perhaps just major in ME and take the EECS courses of interest as out of major electives.

Both are notoriously hard major at Cal. Prepare your anus!

I’ve actually already done MEC85, E10, and E28. And I’ve got a good background knowledge for EE40 and CS61B because I’ve taken similar classes. So with the fifth semester it shouldn’t be too bad. My problem is that it seems like transfer students aren’t allowed to dual major in the college of engineering at all? I need to know if that’s true or not?
Thanks
