Dude, Can I Make It To Tisch?

Aiite so it may not be on the top of your things to do on a Friday night, but like a lotta people in this forum, I'm also a nerved out on college. My stats aren't stoked, but I'm getting there. Check it out:

SAT II:

Math IIC: 800
Chemistry: 780

Aiite so up to here is the numbers game. I was just wondering if it would be in my interest to take different SAT II's for my intended colleges.

Internships:

Summer + Winter internship with a dude from Harvard where I didn't do anything, but did learn a lot about the experimental process in the professional world. I got sent to run errands, watch specimens culture, the dirty work. I could probably omit all that and just say I worked with a Harvard dude, but would this even help me in the first place?

Summer internship with the International Herald Tribune

I'm currently applying for an internship with GQ Korea and this major advertising/publicity company in Korea called Cheil Communications.

I've applied to Samsung, but got denied due to my age.

The point I'm getting at is, what kind of internships should I be looking for?
I have this dilemma because I think I have definite talent in the art department - I've always been praised for my graphic design, my skill with creating videos, my posters around school, things like that. My projects are always complimented for the visual aspect, but yet, I've been so focused on studying and set myself to work for business that now, its too late to pursue a career in the arts. I was thinking I could do marketing as my major and have minors in graphic design, but would that be weak? Should I go all in and think about applying to dream schools for film and design like RISD and Tisch? Is it worth throwing away all my academic strengths in debate, etc? (I'll go into how they're my strengths later.)

I'm thinking I should try a bank internship or something like that for the business aspect.

Anyways, moving on:

Awards:

I know a lotta people list all those little awards that don't mean much, so I'll spare the agony and just list my kahunas.

IDEA Karl Popper World Debate Championships 2006 - Champion

KHSDC Korean National Debate Championships - Champion

Aiite so this concludes my facts, figures, stats, etc. If you guys need more info about me, feel free to ask. Otherwise, please give me some feedback and I want to thank everyone again for making this thread worthwhile. (I'm hoping)

So it all ends with the golden question: What are my chances?

Thanks again everyone.

you are in

I don't think you'd have a problem getting into CAS, but Tisch (from my understanding) is really going to ride on the quality of your portfolio. If you think you have a strong portfolio and credentials in the arts, go for Tisch.

^^Is that true ava? I have average stats and I'm riding on my audition to give me that extra push.

I'm honestly no expert in the Tisch/arts school stuff, but that's what I've heard.

It makes sense to me too. I doubt a top arts school would accept someone with high SAT scores but mediocre artistic ability; it would make no sense. I figure the portfolio is most likely just one more part of the application, just like GPA/SATs/ECs/Essays. I figure Tisch most likely accpets people that are smart and have a lot of talent. So if the portfolio's weak, it's going to be hard to get into Tisch.

But I am by no means an expert. That's just what I've heard and think.

okay. thanks.

I've heard and read repeatedly that Tisch admission works like this: 50% on academics, 50% on portfolio, They're not going to take anyone with a bad portfolio just b/c of great academics.
On the other hand, your scores and EC's are so outstanding that you have a great shot at CAS, or many other American colleges and universities.
I believe you can only apply to one school at NYU. So I hope you're thinkng of applying to Tisch and then some other wonderful colleges or universities in the US.
Once I heard the Tisch process described this way: NYU central admissions has an accept/reject pile. The Tisch faculty looks over portfolios (or auditions) without reference to what NYU central is doing, and decides an accept/reject pile.
Then the Tisch people put together one pile of the admits from NYU central and their own admits, and decide on a good balance of talents for the incoming class.
With your academic stats you're almost sure to get in with the NYU central folks, so it'll all come down to 1) if they admit your portfolio AND THEN 2) the mysterious process of figuring out a balanced class of talent, diversity, geogrpahy... if there are l0 tenors (pardon the pun) and they need 2, then all 8 tenors could have been equally great, in other words.

ooh mysterious.

i'm confused about what you are actually applying for. If you are interested in
Recorded Music, Film/TV/Video, Web Media, Dramatic Writing or Acting you apply to tisch. But you also mentioned graphic design which falls into the art program or communications program at Steinhardt. so which is it?

Berthong

Your stats are amazing!
I'm applying to art/design schools. I was thinking about majoring in business or finance, but I'd rather go with what I love. I don't know about you since you're talented in so many areas, even debating. You can apply to both art/design schools and business schools. Give yourself more options, because you never know which major you might end up choosing to pursue when it comes to deciding which college to go to. Also, each school offers different amounts of money/scholarships for you. Hope this helped.

Also, here are some good art/design schools other than Tisch in United States that offer Graphic Design (BFA and AAS) and other design majors: Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY), Cooper Union (NY), Parsons The New School for Design (NY), Fashion Institute of Technology (NY), School of Visual Arts (NY), Rochester Institute of Technology (NY), Cleveland Institute of Art (OH), Otis College of Art and Design (CA), etc.

Good luck and again, your stats are amazing! If you're applying to art schools, your portfolio matters a lot. I think you'll definitely get into either majors--business or art. Go with what you love and what you think you'll enjoy doing later on in life. You can also join clubs or local community events that relates to business, debates, and/or etc.
