They launched a jihad against gay people, smearing THEM as child molesters and perverts! Sickening. I hope TLC cancels the show - they never should have given these freakish bigots a platform.

I did not hear/read that it was with his sisters! I’m wondering on the truth of that one. Either way, how awful. And just creepy in the context of the overall “goodness” of the show.

I’ll admit to watching the show weekly. Some for laughs, some for interest. I do believe there is a lot of good intention in the family - more so with the girls. The older guys - Jim Bob and Josh for sure - have always had a bit of a creepy overbearing nature to me.
I am not at all surprised if it was with his sisters. It’s the logical conclusion since apparently the dad saw him coming out of ‘a girl’s’ bedroom and confronted him. Then Josh and the girls ‘got counselling’? The fact that the dad then went to a friend who was a cop to discuss it, and nothing was done, pretty much confirms that no one outside the family was involved. That cop is now serving a long sentence in prison for child pornography. Lovely. This group who spout their hate-filled rhetoric against homosexuals, should be taken off the air.
I feel so sorry for the girls having their sexual abuse history revealed like this.
Read that the counseling consisted of a summer doing carpentry/construction away with a family friend and a “stern talking to” (IIRC) from a former law enforcement officer/family friend who has been convicted of a child pornography crime himself and is serving time. Tragic for all that this was swept under the rug for so long. The statements from the family are stunning. When you look at what was at stake for them, it is remarkable what priorities prevailed and what passed for tending the problem.
He has resigned his position with the Family Research Council. Disgusting and ironic that he has railed against gay marriage and the danger that gay people and gay parents pose to children. The number of people on Facebook that are showing their support to him is shocking to me.
Is this the family that had the 20 kids or something and mom is always saying she’d like to have more?!
I never watched the show and so had no idea there was an anti gay agenda advanced by the family! I just thought they had some very unconventional ideas about the need to procreate so prolifically.
Just very sad for everyone involved. I think it is probably best for everyone if the family just fades back into obscurity. Living life under a microscope isn’t good for anyone.
Can they afford their lifestyle without TLC’s money?

I don’t watch the show but see commercials on TLC. Such a big deal is made of dates being chaperoned, engaged couples not kissing until marriage, etc. It makes me ill to think that those girls who are not allowed to be alone with a male who is not a member of their family could have been abused by a member of their family.
Back in the day they shipped young men like that off to the military. I don’t know what you do now, but you certainly don’t leave them in a house full of sisters.
People aren’t perfect. Many people are highly imperfect. Going through a situation like that with a member of your own family tends to make the family members a whole lot less judgmental of others. That didn’t seem to work with this group.
This is honestly disgusting. Josh Duggar “apologized” for molesting 5 young girls. Mind you, some of them were his sisters! He and his victims received “counseling” and they continued to let him live in that house as if nothing happened. Even though he was a teenager, he should’ve been sent to prison. I mean, 5 girls? And to Michelle and Jim Bob, you forced your daughters to live with the person who sexually assaulted them? They should lose their show immediately. What kind of actions have they been condoning? I knew there was something wrong with this family. They need to lose that show. It’s a shame that the statute of limitations has run out. He should be in prison. One does not simply molest his sisters and another female, build a few houses, and then stop being a predator. Lord knows how many people he has actually hurt. It’s time to end the cult following of the Duggars. Hit em where it hurts. Take their show off TLC and stop paying them.
Can’t say that I am shocked when a family that claims to be all pureness and wholesomeness and is out there attacking others as immoral or whatnot, turns out to have feet of lead. Hypocrisy comes with the territory, James Dobson, one of the founders of “Focus on Family”, criticized parents who worked long hours, accused them of being selfish, wanting material goods at the expense of their family, yet had a culture at FOF that if people didn’t work 10,11,12 hour days, they would soon find themselves out the door…and of course, not to mention all the family values types who ended up being not so…
Especially with the religious right, I wonder what Bible they read, that they never read the lines about criticizing the mote in your neighbor’s eye when you have a log in your own.
Worse, I wonder what kind of help the younger sisters will get in that kind of family, the family research council types also think that therapy is liberal propaganda and all you need to do is pray and so forth shaking head.
Hopefully, just hopefully, the people who watch this show, nod their heads when the Duggars call gays and gay families names, degenerates and the like, have their eyes open, and realize (paraphrasing Forrest Gump) “degenerate is as degenerate does”
Possible that at some point, the son himself was molested (speaking only statistically here). The cycle of shame, denial and cover up is a common one, even without this religious context. Also hope they "fade away"a la megpmom and get the necessary support.
