We have always said that Jana was the Cinderella of the family. That is why I said at the beginning of this whole fiasco, “FREE JANA!!!”
Although it looks like the requirements are not too onerous. A HS diploma, CPR training, certain vaccines and attendance at 20 births.
I’ll stick with my OB thanks.
I believe they are still in the practicum part, where they do the hands-on with a licensed pro.
@surfcity, that’s exactly what I was thinking – I’d want a midwife trained by correspondence course about the same time as I’d want someone trained by “distance learning” for open heart surgery to operate on my elderly parents!
I was also thinking that true midwifery requires some sort of post-collegiate eduction.
Do the 17+ year old kids have high school diplomas / GEDs?
The one thing we do have going for us here is, we can say whatever we want about the Duggars and their education choices, because you know they’ll never find their way to CC to argue with us!
It would appear that the type of deliveries these girls are going to assist with are home births - and perhaps, home births only. Just saying, I don’t think a Duggar is going to be employed by the local hospital service to do deliveries on the OB floor!
Jill of course was planning on a home birth but after a 70 hour labor and some baby complications (breech or worse?? can’t remember for sure) she ended up having to go to a HOSPITAL for delivery.
Well, and not just any delivery. An emergency C-section.
Saw this article today and once again scratched my head with this admission:

Isn’t it a fire hazard to place locks on the outside of bedroom doors?
I don’t watch the show, but assuming the one we’re discussing is the eldest of 19, she probably only needs to be present for a couple more births to achieve that.
Curious, are they anti-vaccine?
Agree with point made above that the Duggars are not likely to be lurking on CC. But, if anyone sees a new poster with screen name 19JsAndCounting, please alert us so we can moderate our comments to comply with the Terms of Service.
Of course, if Jana wants to explore CC, I’d be thrilled! She has said she wants to move out and go to college… no distance learning stuff for her.
Haha ^^^^!!!
Jana is the oldest and did some doula training (not the same as midwife - doulas provide support for the mother in labor but do not deliver). Jill is the 2nd girl, and the one interested in midwifery.
I saw some photos of their chicken pox party.

and attendance at 20 births.[/quote[ Yup, That requirement won’t be hard to meet.
This just keeps getting stranger and stranger. Boys in puberty do not typically molest their younger sisters. This is a quote from Jessa - a preview of tonight’s interview on Fox.
Do you imagine this is what is talking up there in that quote?!!!
It is the words the girls were FED by their parents to protect Josh! “Girls, Josh did some things that he shouldn’t have have - he touched your body without your permission. Now, it’s ok! He was just CURIOUS. He’s a young boy and ALL boys get these feelings. It was really nothing. You had your clothes on and you were sleeping - look, you don’t even remember it!”
Now, that’s my opinion. I have no basis for saying that. I almost HOPE that this is what words the girls were fed - and that they AREN"T just being all-forgiving and minimizing the situation themselves (because they think it’s normal or ok, or not a big deal or whatever).
I wouldn’t expect them to reveal anything new in their interview. They are not going to tell their true feelings but say what they have been programmed to say because a lot of money is at stake. They are going to protect their brother and say that their parents took all measures to protect the girls. I don’t think they know the difference between right and wrong because they have been raised in a very different culture and sheltered environment. I don’t think they are allowed to have independent thoughts and even if they revealed that they were impacted by what happened the costs of telling the truth would put the families financial future in jeopardy as well as their parents reputation. They don’t want any of their family members in any legal trouble. They would stand to lose so much if their true feelings were revealed. I wonder if they would be disowned by the family if they were to rebel in anyway and go against the family message.
Lucky for me, another Stanley Cup game tonight, so darn, I will miss the interview.
In some of the early shows when the older kids were just getting to the age when they’d be starting college, some of the were taking online classes at community colleges. The one who seems to have the most education or at least certifications is John, the second son and fireman. He, along with his twin Jana, don’t seem to like being on the show very much but when they do show him he is usually working. He has an EMT certification and a pilot’s license. He seems to be able to do a lot of construction jobs like plumbing and framing, so maybe he has licenses in those things too.
Good for him.
Teri, for them, “go to college” doesn’t mean “GO to college.”
I used to joke about homeschooling my kids for college. I said we could use the 3rd floor, get a blackboard. Must say, that got them off their bums to think about the process.
I didn’t know John had licences. And many of the older ones are EMT, incl the girls. Would have to look it up, but won’t. Watching the interview re-run was enough for me, whole lotta nuthin’.
They just showed a clip on ET of tonight’s interview with the girls. The responses were clearly scripted and not consistent with the questions asked.
