I know there is a "hopefuls" thread, but lets make one for the people who have signed the agreements and are fully committed to become future blue devils [if accepted =D ]

1st post!!
and yes, I am applying ED

I applied ED. Good luck everyone. This is going to be the longest month and a half of my life.

Is my thread not good enough? lol I singed the ED agreement! This next month is going to be dreadful. I’m on the lower 25th percentile in stats but I wrote some pretty good essays and I have one or two pretty good ecs. It also helps a little that I’m urm although probably not much considering there are many qualified urms in central Florida. Good Luck to everyone!

yeah we gotta keep busy/distracted in the next month and 18ish days! What made the decision for you? Visiting campus, talking to students, etc? I feel like the decision made itself!

I’m doing ED also, what’s up guys?

not much big dog…studying for a test which requires no amount of studying in the first place…its my only regular class hahaha

For me, the lifestyle and talking to students. Education+Social Scene+Sports=Win in my book. May be what everyone says, but thats my real reason.

Also, Ive been there multiple times and it just feels right to me. My sister is a junior there, so I have become friends with a lot of her friends and have gotten to talk to a bunch of students about their life there. Just sounds like a place where I would fit into well.

^^ haha nice. I’m doing something similar (actually doing my mind-numblingly easy spanish homework at home instead of at lunch like a normal person)

I think I went with Duke because it seems like there are no cons; the university just fits me perfectly.

Exactly why I chose to ED. I felt more at home at Duke than anywhere else. Duke looks like a place where I’ll have fun for four years. That’s the main reason. The academics aren’t bad either ;)

yeah i visited: Duke, W+Mary, UNC, richmond, UCsanta barbara, UCLA, cal poly san luis obispo…Duke stuck out like a sore thumb…but in every positive way imaginable

I am applying early decision as a URM. My guidence counselor just signed the ED agreement today locking me in :)

everyone get their stuff in on time?!

^ Just turned in my Common App last night. Everything is in except 1 teacher recc (he is done with it but is a procrastinator).

btw do you guys know how important the quarter grades submission is for Duke ED? I have had straight A’s thus far but I feel like I will have a B in Spanish for the quarter (will be an A for the semester and my school is on a semester system). Do they assume the quarter grades will be the semester grades?

^ Same for me, just need one teacher rec in. My school is using Naviance for the first year, and this teacher also just left for another job within my school system. So Im hoping he uploads it tomorrow…

One B for the quarter will not be a problem at all. Duke understands its just quarter grades, and many people will start off with a lower grade (due to new teachers, getting used to grading, etc) and pull it up throughout the year. Even if it wasnt just a quarter grade, one B still wouldnt hurt you. I believe all they are looking for is to see you stay consistent with your grades (which you did) and make sure you are not slacking off. Youll be fine.

Okay cool thats good to hear. (I was especially concerned because my school doesn’t have weighted GPA so a B would drop my class rank from 1 to like 10 or 11 out of about 475)

yeah i sent in my quarter grades and had a B in AP Calc…im not too worried they understand that starting completely new classes (especially a bunch of AP classes) with a bunch of AP teachers is tough.

a month and 15 days!

…and now we wait.

I just submitted my application!!! Now the wait begins. I can’t wait to hear how many people apply ED this year. Any predictions?

My guess is 12
