Duke 2015 Hopefuls!

I was contemplating Duke ED, but decided against it after I visited and found another school that I liked better XD

^

well that’s because you’re looking at a small sample of applicants that are all pretty motivated and competitive.

ED
definitely:)

Hopefully we all get in guys! I’m applying ED as well

Best of luck to all yall in the admissions process, and maybe we’ll end up seeing each other on campus

My brother is a freshman at Duke now, and he absolutely loves it. The newspaper did give some data you might want to know:

This year has the highest ED applicants: 2,285.
This is a 14% increase from last year!

Wish you all luck, guys.

I applied ED as well!! I’m really set on Duke as my #1 school! But I’m still waiting on someone to contact me for my interview…:frowning: If not, I’ll have to contact someone lol!

The application pool has gotten bigger, which kind of makes me nervous. D: Will it be harder to get in?

I’m at Duke now, so if you have any questions, feel free to PM me!

This thread needs to be more active

Does anyone know what the siginificant research answer should be like? Should it be an abstract? Or should we record our reflections and experiences, ect.?

Eiswein, I think it’s the latter one (record reflections…). You can always send abstract to admission office

just had my interview! like 30 minutes ago

This is my observation from a limited sample size, but… When I see people who ask for chances to Duke and some ivy schools, the people who respond usually put that person as a reach for the ivies, and a match-high match for Duke.

This is pretty surprising since Duke’s statistics for the class of 2014 are as good, or better than most ivy league schools. Is there that Duke admissions is rated as competitive as these schools then?

Guys could you please answer my questions here? Or even the answer to the main question would do. Pretty please with sugar dipped cherry and chocolate icing on the top?

Thanks!

Personally, I believe that if Duke was part of the Ivy League, the rankings would go as such:

 1. Harvard
 2. Princeton
 3. Yale
 4. Columbia
 5. UPenn
 6. Duke
 7. Dartmouth
 8. Cornell
 9. Brown

But that’s just my opinion

I personally think Cornell should be higher, it is a great school

They’re all great schools, but if anything, Cornell should be switched with Dartmouth. I don’t think it should be ranked higher than that.

Is Brown really the worst Ivy? I thought it was one of the more selective/prestigious ones (plus it has Emma Watson).

Rankings are are arbitrary. No one’s ever going to agree on one ranking. What we can agree on is that Duke, Brown, Cornell, and other Ivies are great schools. Let’s just leave it at that.

the problem with these schools is that they’re all so close to each other that the change from one to the next is nominal. One can be considered better than another in one way, and the next can be better than that, depending on specific programs and research opportunities and such (if that made any sense…).

^@ ballinallday, i completely agree. most would agree that HYP as far as the ivies go are in a league of their own. but duke is very close to all of the other ivies.

Depending what your intended field of study. I would not go to Harvard for Engineering. I would choose MIT and Cal Tech. If I want to go to Wall Street, on the other hand, I will pick Harvard, Columbia, NYU, U Penn. If I want to go med school, I will go H, Y, Duke, Johns Hopkins. If I want to be in the military, I will join West point…
