Does Duke send out any likely letters? If so, when?

i was actually wondering the same thing myself.

For RD I think they come in late Feb up to around Mar 1. They are also mixed in with an invitation to visit campus for free for a few days around Apr 1.

^^so thats an affirmative to the likely letters question?

They do to my knowledge, plus there are the scholarship interviews.

there are definitely likely letters, the timeframe could be a little earlier or later than i thought

if you don't get a likely letter, can you assume to be rejected? If you do get one, is there still a chance you won't get in?

"an invitation to visit campus for free for a few days around Apr 1."

Is there usually a fee associated with a campus visit?

i guess they're talking about travel expenses?

Of course not. Likely letters aren't sent out to very many people.

An acceptance should be expected if the academic performance is maintained, but there have been cases (at Dartmouth, for one) where a likely was rejected after contacting severe senioritis.

warblers is right; likelies are basically a guaranteed 'in' barring a serious drop in academic performance. Don't worry if you don't get one though - I think they only send around 300 out per year.

Yes, I was referring to the travel (flight or car) expenses and also they give you dinners and a gift card for meals and other purchases while you're there. You stay in the dorms like a regular overnight visit, then go to classes and events during the day.

wow. i really really really really want one now

Yeah, I'm extremely desperate for one now! Duke has become my top-choice the past couple weeks.

Wow- I didn't think they'd go as far as to pay the travel expenses. That's a lot of money.

haha yeah, 'travel expenses' would mean a good 2000 dollars. I live in pakistan :-) oh well i can dream

Calm down, folks!

S did NOT get a "likely letter" from Duke.

S DID get a lovely acceptance letter from Duke. (just like the vast majority of accepted Duke applicants)

I am wondering if anyone who got a likely letter from Duke was nominated for the Robertson Scholarship?

what are likely letters????

little deceptive letters duke sends. Basically they're for people they really really REALLY dislike. So they decide to be mean and send in 200 letters each year which state that the adressee has been guaranteed acceptance. Then, when actual letters come out on april the first, they go 'we lied! april #%$# fools you idiot". smart no? but then they are a bunch of intellectuals :-p
