Duke and likely letters

but the robertson is AMAZING. yale isn't offering to pay my tuition or give me huge summer travel/internship opportunities. i'm definitely not complaining about yale. it's an incredible school and i'll probably end up going there, but were i to get the robertson, i'd feel no qualms if i decided to turn them (yale) down.

vegangirl, I'm in the EXACT same situation. Getting no finaid whatsoever from Yale was not unexpected but was still kind of tough to take, lol. I have to admit that I'd feel really bad about turning Yale down, but I'd probably still do it if I were lucky enough to get the Robertson.

are ED applicants considered for Robertsons and other merit scholarships?

i dont see why they wouldnt be

ED applicants, especially ED admits, are less likely to get scholarships because they are more likely to enroll. The whole point of scholarships is to lure top students who might matriculate elsewhere.

Isn't the Robertson the joint UNC/Duke program?

Don't you have to apply separately for this?

edit: I checked the website (durrr). Should've applied :-x

It is the joint UNC/Duke program, separate and quite substantial app. We should be hearing from the Robertson people in a couple weeks, if we made semifinalist...

Edit:
Eek, Robertson semifinalists find out this Friday???
February 23, 2007 - 150 semifinalists selected and invited to participate in phone interviews

Yep. Eek. Is Roberston notification done via email? And do they notify everyone, including the people who aren't advancing?

No, check your email that they sent you after applying: they only notify those who made semifinalist. There will definitely be a semifinalist on CC (I hope :)) so he/she (I???? Haha) will post and then that'll be your notification that you didn't make it :(

I have no idea whether it's by email or not. And I tried searching these forums but it's too tedious...whatever...

It looks like they sent out emails last year

Thanks for posting that nct3

warblersrule--thank you SO much for posting that link, you have no idea how cool that is. Up until now, I thought Cornell was the only school I applied to which had a bona fide entomology program...they actually have entomology as a major, which is sweet. So yeah, I am officially totally in love with Duke lol.

Btw, are you into ornithology at all (judging from your SN)? I took this great class this summer at OSU on aquatic insects, and they had a class on aquatic birds as well, in case you were at all interested. There was a lot of material about conservation, which I thought was really cool. If not, disregard, lol.

A question for everyone in general--is there a formal invitation to Duke Up Close? If so I didn't get it--is this bad?

I have to say, not applying for Robertson is probably the biggest regret I have right now in the college admissions process...but good luck to all yall who did! I started it, and then just kind of gave up...what the hell was I thinking.

Dude, I've said it like 3 times on this thread, and it's in your likely letter...they haven't yet sent out formal details for Duke Up Close or scholarship finalist weekends. You will get that information by mid-March: most of the likely letter recipients will get invites to Duke Up Close but some will be invited to scholarship finalist weekends instead.

okay got it this time, thanks DUDE :)

Yes, very. :)

I just got a "likely letter" today and I'm very excited.

If you look up Robertson from last year I think there were only two or so semi finalists from each state. There are about 150 semi finalists but about 75 to Duke and 75 to UNC. I wonder if it was a benefit to apply to both schools or if it is not a disadvantage to have applied to just one of the schools. The nomination form said that it was not necessary to apply to both schools. According to what I read, only one applicant last year got the nomination for both UNC and Duke and could choose.

I just got a likely letter today too. I did not know they sent them at Duke. Great feeling!

sigh, a close friend just got hers, so I guess that means they've already passed through Kansas.

I think it has been said that likely letters don't all go out at one point. That there is something like a span of one or two months when they are sent out to students and received?
