Duke atmosphere

Hey I was just wondering (since I check the chronicle daily) it seems there have been issues with girls trying to live up to this "perfect image" of being beautiful, sexy, smart, outgoing, etc. like everything all at once, and that this image of perfection has gotten so bad that the girls are getting into eating disorders. I'm sure this is trend is not only at Duke, but at other top schools. I'm just wondering if the girls at Duke are really focused on their looks... like they'll get their nails done/do makeup before class/dress up/work out/maintain social status trying to be all perfect while managing a 4.0 I've actually struggled with ^^ and eating disorders a while back, so I'm just wondering if any current dukies could give their thoughts.

The average Duke girl is more worried about her GPA than her french manicure. Perhaps within the Greek scene this attitude is more prevalent (I'm in a selective living group), 'cause I haven't seen my friends getting bent out of shape over "effortless perfection." There's pressure to do well and maintain a social life, but it's like that everywhere. People here are goal-oriented, and some are type A perfectionists types, just like at any good school. shrugs
