I applied early decision to Duke engineering. Most of my application is pretty solid, i.e. essays, extracurriculars, grades, tests. But I'm in Calc AB as a senior. My math scores on the SAT and subject test (math 2) are perfect and my math grades are all good. Does the math coursework (i.e. just one year of calc for engineering) screw me over? Thanks

Well you’re not screwed for taking just Calculus AB, taking BC would help but I don’t think Duke will deny you on that basis alone (though it does put you at a disadvantage compared to other candidates). Your high math scores on the SAT night help make up for that though. Make sure your essay is STELLAR. Also it would help if you list in particular what ECs you did and your GPA is. I think you stand a chance but will have to compete with many other candidates stronger than you. Consider applying to Umich and some of the Universities of California, and Texas A&M. Good luck

Thanks- i’m a california student so UCLA is my second choice, and i’m applying to several other UCs.
