Duke Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Here we are! :D

Apps are all due in a few days and I don't think another thread like this exists for this year's RD!

How are you all feeling? Did you apply for Trinity or Pratt? (I did Pratt)

Let's talk!

trinity

scared

You’re not alone!

April 1st, right?

Trinity! Duke rocks.

^Oh yea!

You guys fans of Duke ball?! Been a fan since 06

Trinity! I just hope the ED people didn’t take up ALL the spots :P

terrifying april fool’s day

I wonder if they would trick us with April Fool stuff!

And I forgot the percentage that Duke used ED for their Freshman class :/

44% of Duke’s Class of 2017 was filled with ED applicants. ;)

And I believe Duke will announce RD results March 30th.

Trinity applicant here. Couldn’t apply early due to its restrictiveness.

I know schools like this are always a reach, but I’m hoping!

Dang 44%

And March 30th? I think I read on the site April 1st. Even then, it’s still a long way to go.

@Cof I know man! We’re all hoping.

Guess I’m now a RD applicant

Trinity —> Deferred ED but not giving up hope

You’re technically still an ED applicant without the binding factor. I believe the committee will still evaluate your application given your high level of interest for Duke.

@Juvenis: That’s exactly how I feel!

I have twins who both applied RD to Pratt. Duke is probably their first choice, but FA is a critical part of their college decisions - we’re not in a position to write two checks for $60,000 for the next four years.

I’m a Duke alum but it is much harder to get admitted now than way back when I applied.

^RMLDad Duke gives really good FA packages, as long as you don’t make like 150K+ really lol

Pratt! :slight_smile: excited. Deffered from Stanford REA, fingers crossed for march/april…

@citizenship: lol right? Duke can just squeeze all of us in.

My daughter applied to Duke before Dec 10 th in order to get an interview. But she hasnt been called for interview yet. Is any one in the same situation as her. She is a RD applicant. Has anyone got interview phone calls who submitted their applications by Dec 10 th, 2012. Please let us know. Thanks.

I have helped with the alumni interviews for about ten years (although I can’t this year because my twins are applying). It is an unpredictable process for the admissions office to send the requests to the alumni office who then distribute lists to the regional chairs and finally to the individual interviewers. It is then contingent on the interviewer’s schedule as to when the applicant is actually contacted. Because these are all volunteers, there might well be some delay before you are contacted.

The interviews and evaluations generally should be completed by mid-February, although extensions are often granted. If you have not heard anything by mid to late January, you can call the admissions office.

My understanding (unconfirmed hearsay) is that the regional offices have been flooded with requests this year. Based on sheer volume, you might not be scheduled. Neither of my twins has been contacted for their RD interview yet.

Regardless, don’t worry if you don’t get an interview. It won’t help an applicant and can really only hurt if you screw something up. It is more of a PR thing to keep alumni connected to Duke as well as give a local feel and personal face to applicants.
