With the Common App now open for the next application cycle, I think it would be best if we can get the discussion started! Where is everyone from? What made you want to apply to Duke? Are you applying ED or RD?
I guess I’ll start.

Why I want to go to Duke: Visited Duke this summer and I absolutely loved it! I also love their global health program my tour guide was really cool and he told me a lot about Duke. Why I want to go to Duke:
Duke was the first school to catch my eye when I started thinking about biomedical engineering. Obviously they are one of the best schools in the country for that, so that’s an obvious plus. Also, Duke has a neuroengineering center that very few schools have, about which I am very excited because that is the area in which I wish to study. In addition to amazing academics, Duke has great school spirit, with division 1 athletics and a solid music program (I’m an All State oboist).
Major: Biomedical engineering
Applying RD for financial reasons
Hey you guys both have great stats! I think you both have great chances. Im also applying ED so hopefully i get in too lol @JemmaSimmons @tacanadian

Why I want to go to Duke:
I also took interest in Duke for their incredibly strong biomedical engineering program. I heard about the amazing research opportunities and projects that the engineering students take part in and I knew I would love it. Not to mention their campus, school spirit, and community are amazing.
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Applying RD because I don’t have a top choice right now
Duke is a very high reach for me, so I know I don’t have great chances, but if you guys have any input to my chances that would be helpful.
@Kramer1 What did you end up getting on the ACT?
@therealdeal23 not sure yet. My score hasn’t been released.
@therealdeal23 I got a 33 composite on the ACT. 35 in math, 33 in science and english, and a 30 in reading. What do you think would be my overall chance RD with this score?

Why I want to go to Duke: Went to an academic camp at Duke and absolutely love it. When I visited this past spring I feel in love with it all over again. Applying ED (Fingers crossed)
Major: Economics
@Kramer1 everyone has a chance to get into Duke! The main thing you can do to separate yourself from others I think is to make sure that your essays are phenomenal- make sure you have multiple people read them for you- and also make sure your doing a lot of EC’s and also volunteering in community, Duke likes that a lot! Hope this was helpful. I hope we both get into Duke!(Fingers crossed)
@seahawk3 we have the same ACT score!! Hopefully we both get in!!

@Kramer1 I’ve took the SAT in October and I am taking sat subject test in novemebr math 2 and bio m hoping for 700 on those so I’ll be competitive plus I’ve done pretty substantial research to negate my lower scores

I fell in love with Duke immediately, loved the atmosphere and location. Also a big fan of their service options and focus on sustainability, esp. in research.
*****Question: I’m taking Calc BC and it’s going to be pretty messy MP1, how much do y’all think Duke will care about one bad MP1 grade?
@Swiper902 Yep, only one essay.
