I want to wish those of you applying ED 2021 the best of luck. On this date one year ago, my son submitted his ED application to Duke Pratt. I remember him saying to me “Wow, if I could get into Duke that would really be something.” He’s there now studying hard, has tons of friends, and texts me about how much he loves it. You never know unless you apply.
Hi. I’m from South Africa with high grades and good test scores. Top 3% of matriculating year of high school. I also have represented South Africa for 4 years at the World Fly Fishing Championships. Do you believe this is a hook?
@neonpinklime thanks for the encouragement is there any advice you would give any off us apply RD to Duke this fall?
Also @southafrican123 i think that the fact that your international is a hook thats what i think I’m not 100% sure

Hey guys!
White Female NC, applying ED
I have pretty good stats, average for cc I guess lol. The comparison game is kinda toxic so I’m not gonna bother listing them out.
I like Duke for so many reasons lol it’s impossible to list them all, they have such excellent academics for what I want to do and the location is wonderful for my family.
I sincerely wish the best to all of you and hope to be a blue devil next year
Anyone know what the likelihood of getting accepted post-deferral is?
Hi everybody, so nice to see other people freaking out about this lol.

ED (It’s been two days and I’m freaking out already)
Stats: 32 ACT (@AjWolf03 actually I think my ACT scores are super similar to yours haha) 1440 SAT Don’t really remember exact stuff but it’s not all about the scores right?? :’)
Major: Political Science (I want to focus on International Relations specifically)
I love Duke because it looks like the kind of place that is really out there to challenge you and everyone around, and it felt nice not to be completely comfortable. I’m a military brat so I’m used to moving around and I liked the feeling that it was going to push me. Good luck everybody, even if it’s your reach you’ll never know what will happen!
@ohyikes I have a friend who got accepted last year after being deferred so it is possible! Although truthfully I don’t know the stats and I don’t think they’re that high.
Some friendly advise… check each of your admissions portals very carefully. Duke was one of three colleges out of 13 that my daughter is applying to that did not have her highest test scores listed (even though ACT and College Board confirmed sending such months ago). The other two were able to fix the issue within 24 hours, but Duke has known about the issue for a few weeks now without being able to fix it. They now have at least confirmed having the correct scores, but apparently they are having some behind the scenes IT issues with their portal. Hopefully she is a rare exception… but take the safe approach and check carefully.
good luck.

Why I want to go to Duke: I’ve loved sports for as long as I can remember, and am a big athlete myself. I wanted a school that put a focus on athletics and academics, and to me, Duke is the best school in the country for that. I visited campus and fell in love, because how could you not? I doubt I’ll get in, but you never know if you don’t try.

Applying RD because of money/indecisiveness
Has anyone been contacted for an interview yet?
@pac12bound I haven’t.
I was contacted about two days after applying and had my interview last Tuesday. My friend (same region and school) applied ED too and has not been contacted yet. We both submitted on Nov. 1. Another friend (same region, diff. school) applied RD about a month ago and has also not been contacted yet.
I was contacted a few days ago, I applied Oct. 29.
@BB1313 and @ohyikes What region are you guys in? And do you consider yourself a strong candidate? I’m wondering if interview selection is based on whether I’m a strong or weak candidate.
I live about an hour away from Duke in NC, though my interviewer mentioned she didn’t know many alums in the city. But the offer was so soon that there’s no way they could have screened my app first, they didn’t even have my test scores received yet when I checked the website. I think it’s just based on availability
Getting an interview has NOTHING to do with the competitiveness of your application. It’s simply based on where you live, how many alumni volunteers are in the area, and how quickly the regional representative assigns applicants and how quickly the interviewer ultimately contacts you. The only input that is taken into consideration is the application date as the Duke admissions office tries to prioritize giving interviews to those that submitted by the earlier deadline (but they still try to give as many people as possible interviews nonetheless). Good luck!
My interviewer said that if you don’t get an interview you most likely wont get in
I applied October 31st and was contacted last week by an alumnus in my area. I had my interview on November 13th and I think it went really well! Wishing everyone the best of luck, especially my fellow ED applicants! Go Duke! >:)
Your interviewer doesn’t know what he/she is talking about (unfortunately). Not all do…It’s true that you most likely won’t get in, but that’s because ALL applicants most likely won’t get in. (The acceptance rate is pretty low). There is no correlation between being selecting for an interview and the competitiveness of your application. Again, it simply means you applied by a reasonable date, and live in an area where there are sufficient alumni volunteers to interview.
