Will it hurt your chance of admission if you take the SAT but do not take any subject tests?
@jazzyjess28 Unfortunately, on the website, it does that that if you take the SAT, subject tests are highly encouraged. However, don’t stress about it! It could just be a generalization and might not apply to you, depending on your scores and grades and extracurriculars!
@jazzyjess28 Admissions says that they strongly recommend 2 subject tests to accompany the SAT 1… however this will not make or break your decision. There are a couple things that could make the lack of SAT 2 scores a complete non factor…
- Submission of ACT
- Absurdly good SAT 1
- Very good extracurriculars/essays/recommendations
You have to remember that almost all of the applicants to Duke ED can do the work for the school, and what can make or break the application is the personal aspect.
SO: This will not preclude your admission by any means, although it certainly does not help your chances. If you put in the work in past years and have a strong application otherwise it is very possible that the admissions office could completely overlook the lack of Subject Test scores.
Hope this puts your mind at ease, and good luck to all tomorrow!
(A little note: Do not freak out if everyone on here that says “chance me” seems to have done 12345+ hours of community service, has cured cancer, etc etc. The people on here often represent the very top of the applicant pool-- and the admissions rate does not change just because one person on CC looks really good. CC was a major stressor for me before I realized this.)
Again, good luck to all and may we all join the class of 2022 tomorrow at 7EST!!!
What will it look like if I took ACT and two subject tests but no SAT??
@OutForBlood I’m going to guess (although based only on knowledge I already know regarding admissions offices, especially Duke’s) that they will consider the ACT and probably not look much at the subject tests, as they are meant to accompany an SAT 1 score.
This could be incorrect-- just the way I see it.
Awww I hope not my SAT IIs are very strong:(
Anyone here from NYC?
I wonder how much time they actually read each application we worked so hard for months?
Is anyone from NJ? (The northern region near New York City)
@beautyandbeast5 yup me
~24 hours left …
@theboyoverthere each application is read at least twice
Guys I got into my very lowest safety school on my list and I got a small (like pretty tiny) scholarship and now it’s making me anxious that if I got into my very safety school barely getting aid that I definitely won’t get into duke ahhhh I’m stressing.
Y’all are amazing and smart and talented and you’ll make your own paths wherever you go! No use stressing now, you’ve already put in the work.
@1256asas what school?
Santa Clara
I did apply for engineering though while at Duke I applied for Public Policy so I’m not sure if that had an impact
well I don’t think how much aide you get necessarily correlates with your worth there. Probably just gave us much as they could to you. Not every school can give as much as elite universities like duke are capable of
That’s true, I guess only time will tell for Duke
I don’t know how im going to be able to open my portal tomorrow. It’s gonna be impossible
