@az2004 thank you! My DS didn’t get an invite for the interview - I hear it’s based on the alumni availability in the area - perhaps not enough available in our area I presume. Has anyone’s status on the Duke portal changed to “In Review” - he doesn’t see it yet and we were wondering? Also, do you all see the “Red X” against the mid-year report?
Where are you located? We are in Tucson, AZ. Actually was surprised that there was someone local here. The alum’s emails kept going to spam so luckily we happened to check there but it was two days after it was sent. I do not have access to my son’s portal so I’ll have to check if there are any notices.
are they going to send some sort of email about the decision date?
Has any RD applicant got interview letter? We are in NJ, so expect alumni availability. May be the RD interviews get set up after ED?
d22 applied- RD OOS. no communication emails from Duke
Actually Duke is one of a few schools that only has a few sports/athletes apply ED. Other sports (think non revenue) apply RD, but still have full support. The legacy admission rep was very clear legacy =ED or zero “bump”.
Thanks.Good to know,applying ED.
I’m a Duke alumni interviewer. I’ve only ever been given RD candidates in January so expect to be contacted then.
Thank you
Thanks for the information @Malsandhuskies. Do most applicants get interviews (based on availability)? How big a part do interviews play in the decision process at Duke?
I think it really depends on alumni availability so no reason to stress if you don’t get one. They like to have alumni be in same geographical area as they should have a better understanding of the candidates background. For instance, both my kids are in high school so I know a lot about what’s happening at the local high schools.
The interview is evaluative but I honestly don’t think it factors much into the admission decision so I would definitely not stress over it. I think it’s more of an opportunity to learn more about the school and adds a personal touch to the application process.
Thanks @Malsandhuskies. Very good information
We met with the alumni office in Fall of 2019 and that is not quite consistent with what we were told then: legacy gives a small increase in acceptance rate for both ED and RD, but the boost is bigger for ED. The person definitely encouraged ED! At the time , avg ED accept rate was around 20%, and legacy ED accept rate was “around 25%” on average, whereas RD rate was 6% avg, with legacy RD at around 9-10%. Last year, from a different source, the legacy ED accept rate was in the range of 19% while the overall ED rate was 16%(the latter is a published #). So, with the applications far higher for ED last yr, the bump seemed to be shrinking …who knows if last yr was a blip or a new trend.
Our meeting was late summer/early Fall 2020 via Zoom and the alumni admission director was very clear about ED to us - who knows ? Either way - no application done for ED or RD.
Much appreciated.
I am a Duke alumni interviewer. No RD interview assignments have been made in my location (NY)
When are the first wave of ED coming for Duke?
I’d like to believe there will be an update indicating ED release date this week. Maybe late next week but anyone’s guess.
Duke website says mid-December. Coalition website says Dec 15th. Am thinking 15th or 16th.
My son’s school counselor just told him that Duke reached out and asked for his grades. He applied ED. She indicated this is a pretty good sign that they are interested in him. Anyone else?
