Duke ED 2025

Re: Tulane, don’t feel bad. They defer many Top 20 applicants as they know their college is a “back-up” for high stat students applying to the Ivies and equivalent. My D, was deferred from Tulane but was accepted to Duke ED. Makes sense when you think about it.

One child applying to Duke ED; twin applied to Vandy ED and Tulane EA. Accepted to Vandy with financials that are within a couple of thousand of in-state flagship; deferred at Tulane. Read Selingo’s book over Thanksgiving (belatedly), super insightful. All those quants determining interest at Tulane—I knew then the latter would be deferred.

Oldest wound up at an OOS New England flagship (not a first choice) a few years ago and has had endless opportunities—internships, on-campus opportunities, etc. Can’t stress enough that as Bruni says, it’s not where you go, it’s what you do.

I think all of you will do amazing things, even if the news tomorrow isn’t what you want. #2 is thinking ahead and has a great plan B if it isn’t positive tomorrow. Keep your head up! You will shine.

I read on another post that 60% of ED applicants submitted test scores, while 40% did not. Apparently, the Deans of Admission said that they will accept 50%/50%. This makes sense because they will likely be sued otherwise.

Does this mean that those who did not submit test scores are at an advantage because they are competing against less applicants?

he made the 50/50 statement before he knew the stats about how many submitted test scores.

So test-optional students are still at a disadvantage?

If he released the statement before students even applied, it would be misleading to not accept 50/50 wouldn’t it?

not really. i think it was just to make people aware that test scores will not be an accept/decline factor. i would not be surprised if it went something like 60/40 admitted with test scores/test optional or pretty close to that if they are trying to keep it equal. but 50/50 would not be fair.
