Duke ED and UVA EA

Hi, I've been doing some research in ED/EA etc and I just find it really confusing. I would like to apply to duke for ED but its a reach school for me so i also want to apply to UVA for EA because I still love UVA. Is that even possible? Thanks:) if you have any tips in applying to these colleges or just applying in general let me know! Thanks

ED schools allow you to apply EA elsewhere but not ED. The issue becomes what the EA schools allow, UVA, like most EA schools allows you to apply both ED and EA elsewhere, so you can do what you intend. There are some EA schools that allow you to apply EA elsewhere but do not allow you to apply ED elsewhere. Then there are a small number, such as Stanford, Yale, and Harvard, which have single choice EA, which do not allow you to apply ED or EA elsewhere but with exceptions, one of which is that you can apply EA to your in-state public universities.

Read the rules and restrictions at each school carefully as they can change from year to year. there are Single choice restrictions that some schools have. Make sure you are not going astray of the rules when applying to schools early.

Just be aware that the University of Virginia’s EA notification of your admissions decision will not come until January. If you were rejected or deferred by Duke, you would still need to complete all of your RD applications because you will not know UVa’s decision before the other application deadlines.

Cool thank you guys:) let me know if theres any additional information! Really appreciate it

Oh so even if i dont apply anywhere for ED but apply to UVa for ED, would i still need to apply RD because of their notification in January? Then whats the point in applying early if i still need to apply RD? Haha sorry if im just not making sense im so confused haha

If you choose to apply to UVa EA, you still need to do all of your RD apps. The benefit is that you get the UVa decision in January instead of March.
