Duke ED chances

Please disregard my other thread: my text was deleted right when i submitted it.

Anyways,
Im a senior who applied ED for Duke, and was wondering whether you guys think ill be admitted or not.
Couple things to note: I'm hispanic (both parents are from Ecuador), and my brother and sister both attended Duke, so I have sibling legacy. I'm one of seven children.

Objective:
SAT: 1880
SAT II tests: plan to take in December in case i am deferred.
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0):3.61
Class Rank: 86th/446

Extracurriculars:
Autism Youth Ambassadors-President/School chapter creator. Started this chapter at my school near the end of my junior year. First AYA group on the East Coast. I organize volunteer events at local schools for children with special needs, and in general, work to raise awareness of autism and those affected by it. Im extremely influenced by my older brother who has autism, Down syndrome, an mental retardation.

Habitat for Humanity-Co-President, help organize and participate events in which we build housing for the poor.

Varsity Lacrosse-Manager, i make promotional lacrosse videos. I have an extreme passion for cinematography and the teachers and students always compliment my videos.

Class Council (Liaison, 2 years), Bigger Faster Stronger Club (4 years), Youth & Government (2 years), Spanish Club (3 years), National Spanish Honor Society (3 years), Junior Varsity Lacrosse (2 years), Indoor Track & Field (1 year), Tutor (3 years).

Essays: all touching and extremely well written. For my CommonApp essay, i wrote about an experience with my brother when he disabled his patella in Ecuador, and I had to carry him miles to reach a deserted hospital with no clean water and doctors to sum up a long and grueling story.
For my Duke short answers, I wrote about how visiting my siblings when they attended fortified my attachment to Duke and how I felt at home, and how I yearn to meet the part of my identity that i left on the Duke campus.
Additionally, I wrote about my endeavors leading up to making me create my school's Autism Youth Ambassadors club, and how I felt the need to take a leading role in educating my school and community on the prevalence of autism today, especially since i interact with someone who has autism everyday.
Teacher Recommendation #1: from my lacrosse coach, who has also been my health and gym teacher, and is currently my weight training teacher. He knows me more than any other teacher, and knows how tremendous my work ethic is. He's also aware of the sacrifices i take daily for the wellbeing of my disabled brother. There's no doubt that he wrote me an amazing recommendation.
Teacher Recommendation #2: from an English teacher. She's also my Autism club sponsor. She loves me as a student to say the least, and im sure she wrote me a stellar rec too.
Counselor Rec: should be great. He is aware of my environment at home, in which i must help my mom supervise my severely disabled brother daily.
Interview: my interview was awesome. My interviewer was a teacher to children with autism at a local school, so we really bonded on how working with special needs children really opens your eyes to the real world. She said she would "write me the best recommendation" three times throughout the interview, and said "i'm the type of person Duke wants". Overall, we bonded extremely well and she was aware that Duke is where i want to go.

State (if domestic applicant): MD
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Hispanic

Income Bracket: <75,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, Legacy, only one of my parents went to college in Ecuador, and im a fluent spanish speaker.

bump .

I’m sorry, but because your SAT score, GPA, and class rank are all far below those of the average admitted Duke applicant, I don’t think you have a high chance of getting accepted. Your URM status may help, but I’m not sure…
Regardless, the last testing date on which you could have taken the SAT II’s for ED was November 2nd, and you have to take at least two Subject Tests to apply to Duke; since you haven’t taken any yet, your application may have already been thrown out.

I’m so sorry to sound so negative, but I just want to be realistic and help you out. Good luck in the college process!

URM doesn’t help much since Duke gets ton of applications from high achieving minorities.

any other opinions?

bump . .

From their website [Checklist & Deadlines - Duke Admissions](Apply - Duke Undergraduate Admissions) it is clear that Duke requires either the SAT and two SAT Subject Tests or the ACT with Writing. From what you’ve posted, it appears you haven’t met their testing requirements. That will hurt your chances.

I am taking the December 7th subject tests. Do you think if I contacted the admissions office, that they would somehow consider my application/ subject tests even though they would receive my scores after releasing decisions? I’m thinking I’m going to have to apply RD…:/

^I doubt it. Just apply RD.

Ed decisions will already be out before the sat2 tests are released. You will have to apply RD. Sorry!

High reach. Your scores, grades and rank are all below avg. for Duke, even URM Dukies. You should have a good gauge of what it takes to get into Duke, however: how do you compare to your own siblings who attended? That should tell you a lot of whether you have any chance.

Everyone is saying high reach, but I’m torn.

On one hand, yes, SAT, GPA, etc. is low for Duke.

On the other hand, I love your essay topic and ECs, so if Duke focuses on that you’ll have a shot. However, like others are saying, there are unmet testing requirements and RD will be tougher than ED, I’m sorry to say. Good luck with Duke!

Scores are subpar, but exceptions are made, and I think this could be one of those. Legacy helps and wow, those essay topics. Cant say I know a lot of people whove done that.

But ur application has probably already been either thrown out or deferred cuz u dont meet the testing requirements to even apply. Take the SAT 2’s and email admission officers telling them you’ve taken the SAT 2’s in December and that they should consider ur app in the RD pool.

Also, it wouldnt hurt to take the SAT again in january. At least try to get as close to a 2000 as possible
