Duke ED Chances?

Duke is my dream school, I am in love with everything about the school, and at this point I can't see myself at any school other than Duke! However given how competitive admissions to Duke have been for the last few years, I'm not so sure if Duke is a reasonable goal for me anymore. Here are my stats:

GPA uw: 3.8/4.0 (4.0 is A/A+, and 3.7 is A-)
GPA w: 4.73/5.0
rigor of courses: All honors and AP courses, by the time I graduate, 7 AP classes, and 2 self studied APs. I got 5s on all the tests including BC calc.
class rank: top 6% at the number 2 high school in my state
SAT 1: 2320
SAT 2: 800 math 2, 740 history
PSAT: National Merit Scholar

ECs:
Speech and Debate( president and some awards), orchestra(4 state level awards), Student Congress(president), Representative to state board of education, Latin Club(president and founder), Key Club(vice president), Kiva club(president and founder), Teaching Music to underprivileged children (president of HS chapter of organization), School Council member, founder of a successful statewide non-profit organization that tutors homeless and underprivileged children for free (president of HS chapter of this organization), Passion for high altitude mountain climbing (himalayas, kilimanjaro etc.), high school quiz show captain, advanced to state level.

2 years of track/xc (not good though), 1 season of xc skiing.

3 national level awards in national latin exams

Race: Asian
Income: will not apply for FA

Summer activities:
Service Trip to Kenya
Internship at USAID in Washington.
Duke summer course in econ, got an A

Intended major: Economics and probably minor in political science.

My main concerns are the following:
- do high test scores and strong ECs make up for a GPA which is below what Duke would normally accept?
-How negatively will my race affect my chances?

So In conclusion, could I get into a university as awesome as Duke?

Thanks!

I don’t think that your gpa is as low as you think it is because I know all the schools in my area any a is 4.0 uw. However, I don’t know if this is the normal but if not than make sure that your counselor details that in his/her rec letter. Otherwise you look like a strong applicant for duke. Good luck!

yeah actually my gpa still gives me a pretty high class rank, but when I look at the Duke admissions scattergrams, it seems like very few people actually get in with a 3.8 or less. Also, my school is really challenging, and there are 1 or 2 people with a 4.0 uw, and I would say the average gpa at my high school is 3.0-3.5 uw. There are 390 people in my class btw.

Is Duke a match or a reach for me? please answer!

High reach; well, depends if Duke recalculated GPA or not.

If they do, I’m pretty sure both your unweighted and weighted GPAs will be much higher.

Your SAT is great, even for Duke.

Work on your essays, and you’ll have a great shot (as in a high reach, like everyone else with a great shot.)

Actually, you’re a match. But most ivies and other high ranking universities accept only around 30% of their “matches.”
Either way, good luck. You’ll need it like every other “match.”

I don’t think you should worry too much about your GPA…
Remember that colleges look at the context of your school. If your GPA is considered good for your school, then it’s good. I don’t think you should worry about scattergrams of people from other places.

bump 10 char

“By the time Ii graduate, I will have taken 6 AP classes, and I have already self studied 2, on which I got 5’s. I took the SAT’s and I got a 2310 total, and I got a 34 on the act. On the math II sat II, I got a 780, on the biology sat II, I got a 760.”

“GPA uw: 3.76/4.0 (4.0 is A/A+, and 3.7 is A-)
GPA w: 4.7/5.0
rigor of courses: All honors and AP courses, by the time I graduate, 7 AP classes, and 2 self studied APs. I got 5s on all the tests including BC calc. Basically, it’s the most rigorous courseload possible at my school.
class rank: top 7% at the number 2 high school in my state
SAT 1: 2320
SAT 2: 800 math 2, 760 history
PSAT: National Merit Scholar Finalist”

^^^ these stats you posted on two other threads are different from each other and from what you posted above. You also said you were a sophomore elsewhere. National Merit Scholars won’t be decided until fall of your senior year and they don’t even release the state cutoff numbers until late spring of junior year at the earliest. You’re not doing yourself any favors posting these fabricated numbers and qualifications.

sprite, I am being serious with you before you get yourself in some real trouble in your life with this kind of behavior.
