Duke ED Class of 2016

i applied to pratt. i’m hoping being a female in engineering will be a little bit of an advantage.

glad to hear i’m not the only one not finished with other applications! i just can’t bring myself to write an essay about why i want to go to another college.

Eh, I’m not expecting to get in honestly. This huge increase in applicants which would obviously only happen at the school I want to go to (I have not heard of a single other place where applications rose so much) has discouraged me… I’m applying to 4-5 schools by Dec. 1, all of which I should get into.

I have around 4 essays due at the end of this month, you guys stent alone!
Good luck everyone!

Early Pratt. I’m also worried about the increase in applicants, but keeping hopeful. :D

Gonna take advantage of my week-long Thanksgiving break to try to do other essays.

[Duke sees surge in ED applications | The Chronicle](Duke sees surge in ED applications - The Chronicle)

Quick question Cameron crazies:
How much of a plus is it if my sister (purely hypothetical:) ) babysits for the dean of admissions and he happened to mention to her that he saw my application?

It seems Duke Financial Aid has been swamped with applications and tax returns!

Imagine the sheer numbers of files that need to be established and tax returns that need to be filed. Based on the posts last year…there will be many who think the email is an indication of an admission decision…BUT IT IS NOT…read the bold print. It was a courtesy notification.

Eso - Definitely would say that helps. Guttenhag is a great dean, I always enjoy seeing him around campus.

Hey guys! i’m so excited to hear if I get to experience Duke for myself! it is an awesome school and I would be truly honored to attend! by the way i’m reppin’ the 3oh!3 (Colorado)! :)

Yes, indeed. The biggest surge was in-state applicants — a 34% increase!!!
The overall increase was 24% for Trinity and 16% for Pratt.

Do you believe thismassive increase on NC applicants affects their chances more so than OOS applicants?

im applying but not ED, simply because i have a lot of schools looking for me and i dont know how much money DU is willing to give me

What do you think is a good sat score for pratt? I have a 2130 (CR 600, 760 M, 770 W). Do you guys think thats acceptable? I applied ED.

middle 50% range for the class of 2015 engineering:
CR - 690-770
Math - 760-800
Writing - 710-790

I’d say your CR is a little low, but it depends on how strong the rest of your application is. It’s only one of six factors they really look at:

The rigor of a candidate’s academic program
Academic performance
Letters of recommendation from teachers and a counselor
Extracurricular activities and personal qualities
The quality of thought and clarity of expression evident in a candidate’s personal statement/essay
Standardized testing

Where are you guys thinking of applying if Duke doesn’t work out? I, just like everyone else, is hoping for the best.

Anyone know when Duke will send an email with the date and time for results? A week in advance?

@xoclaireberry: I think so. Kids from my school who applied ED last year got that email sometime during the first week of December.

@jmassey16- I can’t even get myself to think about other school let alone write about them until this decision comes out… I think I’d end up at Northwestern or Emory, but oh, what I would do to be a Blue Devil… How about you guys?

@goodtimes77 - I know exactly how you feel. But if I HAVE to apply to other schools, they will be UNC-CH (I’m in-state), UVA, and Vanderbilt.

@jmasset16- nice, Vandy’s really sick. idk by the looks of it, I’ll end up at Northwestern or Emory if not Duke, and I’m applying to Yale, Stanford, UMiami, and UF (In-state) as well. how is NC? I’m so jealous of how you guys have actual seasons.
