Duke ED Class of 2017

I have a strange combination of excitement and angst. The anticipation is killing me…

I absolutely cannot wait any longer!!! I think I am going to pass out or just cry from anticipation. More than anything I just want to KNOW the decision already IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK. At least I can let go of a false hope and get over it and move on with my life instead of suffering intense anxiety over this next week!

Hang in there aria. You can do it!

Hakuna matata, ariaxx!

I’m crazy nervous too! Applied ED to Trinity from a prep school in CT. These will be the longest 5 days of my life!

Can I just say that I love how it says “We recommend the applicant check the decision in the privacy of their own home”? Kind of made me chuckle. I never would have even considered checking it at school.

Ahh I can NOT wait until Wednesday!

Topstardog - I thought that was funny, too! At first I thought the privacy thing meant "check your decision without your parents looking over your shoulder (which I as a parent would like to do!) but then I realized it was about school. Funny!!

And the thing is, they’ve already made the decisions. I try to picture my sons file, sitting there already with one of the three options on it. I try to imagine it, as if I can see the decision telepathically! Why make us all wait if the decisions are made? Maybe most of them are made and they are just deciding on the last few… Maybe someone from NJ’s grades just arrived and they had to say, “Oh, C’s and D’s? I think we have to change our minds and let someone else have that place” :)

Based on the two articles above, I have compiled the stats below.

 20. Projected admittance chance for ED internationals : 16.66%
 21. Projected admittance chance of ED domestic: 25.94% (Sorry not enough data to separate URM & non URM)

Disclaimer: This is not scientific or authentic, but just a projection based on available data.

I know a lot of people have been frustrated with dukes yield rate, and are also frustrated in the decrease of early applicants because they think it correlates to desirability. Does anyone think that the increased pressure for better yield rates could cause a higher acceptance rate for ED this year because the yield rate ED is virtually 100%. I higher rate ED will perhaps cause more applicants to apply early next year as well as increase yield rates. I guess it’s something to ponder for 5 more days

I know Dartmouth has released their decisions and those kids are frantic!
But then again Dartmouth receives less ED apps than Duke year after year.

I really hope that true Captn, and it makes a lot of sense. I don’t think it will raise the rates significantly because acceptance rates are part of rankings, but I think we might see a slight boost.

I guess another thing to consider is by accepting more early, the RD rates go down so it could help make them look more selective. It makes a lot of sense for an ED applicant, I just really hope Duke concurs

Not to burst your bubble but that’s implausible. By accepting more students ED, schools may potentially lose out on some strong candidates in the RD. This is why deferrals–to compare some ED candidates to RD.

What?! Aww man. Less spots for RD then if that’s true:/

True. A small increase in acceptance (25-28% for example) won’t make a huge difference in the long run anyway. Every little bit helps though.

can’t focus on anything else right now!
