A thread for those considering, or applying, ED to Duke this year. Post your stats/general discussion about Duke, maybe?
I’ve already applied to Duke and am very impatiently awaiting my decision right now.
I also applied ED to Duke. I wish I could fast forward my life to decisions haha. What made you choose Duke? I’m from NC, so it’s been my dream to go to Duke for quite some time.
I’m an international student. I will need almost a full ride to get in so probably won’t get in. But still, I chose Duke for its research programs in physics, some of which have ties with CERN and the neutrino research group.
I’m about to submit my application soon. Kind of scary, it’s been my dream school for so long now
Best of luck to all those applying ED! Stay confident
My only concern would be my ACT, a 33. Which I believe since I’m an Asian applicant, would hinder me
They say standerised tests are only one part of the many-faced die @Lift35
Hi everyone! Does anyone know if Duke will receive my test scores if I send them on Monday? Or should I send them now?
Thanks!
@Mango920452 I think Duke will probably receive it. I’m not 100% sure though. You could e-mail then.
The Duke website says they’ll take November SAT scores for ED so y’all should be fine.
I have a crappy gpa (3.5/3.8) and lower end SAT score (2150). Im applying to Duke because I’m a legacy and they have been putting a lot of work into their LGBT programs. Of course the chances are low but I’m not 100% there with any other school so I might as well roll the dice.
@Shulav True, hopefully it isn’t inadequate
@Lift35 I have a 33 ACT too, so hopefully!
How are you all sending in first quarter grades? My counselor says there isn’t the option on the common app?
@anxiousenior1 I believe for first quarter grades Duke would contact your guidance counselor and ask for first quarter grades, then he/she would send them. It is normally between the institution and counselor as far as I know; you may not know when it would be happening depending on if/when they contact your counselor
Does anyone happen to know Duke’s official definition of a First-Generation Student? I know some of the ivies consider a 1st gen a student who’s parents did not pursue a BA/BS or receive a BA/BS from a 4-year institution if it was outside of the USA
@Lift35 I’m not sure, but I believe a First Generation college student is someone who will be the first in their family to go to college. Consider it this way, A person whose parents received a BS and then an MD and then came to work here as doctor probably enjoys a better quality of life than someone whose parents have not gone to college. I would fill in all the Common App information as truthfully as possible and then if Duke still considers you a first gen student, then it can only help you. In fact, it would help me as well, so I really hope they have the definition you described.
Did you guys get your Duke ID/Student Portal things yet? I just sent in my application today (even though it’s missing a recommendation letter, which should be sent in by tomorrow), and was just curious when we’ll be able to see/track documents.
@curiouswonder I got access after a day or so. They say it can take up to 3 business days, I think.
Does anyone know if Duke has a limit per high school of how many students they select? 5 students from my school are applying ED, me included.
