Well this sucks. All my hopes are gone lol can’t wait for dec
does that mean they’re done reviewing applications? if they know the acceptance rate
@qrs2234 probs not. they reserve a certain number of spots for their ED kids and basically they can determine the admit rate from all the applications they got
Every year, there are more students vying for these spots. According to my parents, there was a drop when the Baby Boomers leveled off in the 1980s, and it was easier to get into some of the schools. Now, the numbers are way back up. There are still a lot of great schools out there.
this is so much more omg…800?! do other schools have this much??
@sanjanagupta1 I know that uva got 26,000 applications…the most they’ve ever had for early action so now they pushed back the decision day to early february
Maybe the Top 10 schools w/ED would have this kind of increase, but we are hearing this third-hand. We don’t really know this is a fact. Again, if this means you have to have a 36 ACT/1600 SAT, 4.0 unweighted/5.5 weighted, cured cancer and started your own business making at least $50K/year as a HS senior, then that’s what it means, but at that point, it gets a little ridiculous. People need to relax.
@SlimJim005 5 people all said the same exact number in this thread tho. it is def true
Well, there is the possibility that more applicants are below the 25th percentile in test scores. That’s not necessarily likely, but it’s possible.
Yea, my counselor called me into her office and showed me the email, i thought about taking a pic but i didn’t wanna seem weird lol
Also guys i was wondering whether my race helped or hurt me. I am mixed, black and asian, and I have heard being asian hurts your chances while being black increases your chances. So what do yall think?
lol told you sanjana
Also, it might depend on whether there is a huge increase from a certain part of the US. In other words, if the numbers went way up in NYC and CA, then it might hurt those regions more than others. Just a thought.
@Quinchillas I mean u said the number randomly and said “u couldn’t tell”. that’s pretty suspicious…
do different part of New York count the same? I live in NJ which is similar but say for instance does Long Island vs NYC get grouped together the same way?
Yes, NYC and Long Island would be grouped together. They just want some moderate geographic diversity.
3 admissions officers cover NY State.
One for Manhattan, one for NY upstate, and another for NY other area.
There are over 1700 public high schools in NYC alone. I have not mentioned Private/Catholic schools yet.
Maybe in terms of all these competitive schools (someone mentioned UVA being way up too), we should ask: Is the 99th percentile for ACT and SAT scores still the same? Have the number of test takers stayed roughly the same? I know that I’m just going by test scores, but there are only so many students in the US getting these scores. So, not everyone applying to these schools is equally competitive. It’s just that more are applying.
But, then again, it’s not all about test scores…
I think part of it is that because this was Duke’s first year superscoring the ACT, they are going to recieve more applications as a result of more applicants being in their range.
