I was wondering if anyone had seen any stats on SAT/ACT scores for students applying to Pratt broken down by sex. I'm interested in seeing how the SAT/ACT scores for young women compare to those of the young men. Thanks!

I have never seen such statistics. I don’t think they exist or, at the very least, are not released. Conventional wisdom would say females get a slight boost since engineering programs tend to be male-dominated. However, Duke is less so disproportionate perhaps due to the fact that half of the undergraduates major in BME, which attracts females in much larger numbers than other engineering disciplines. My female peers in engineering were top notch in every way - hard working and extremely smart. I can’t imagine the admissions bump is very large. The Pratt range is 33-35 on the ACT and something like 760-800 on math SAT. Anybody applying to Pratt should be getting 800 (or near) on the Math IIC and a 5 on Calc BC or the coursework will likely be a major struggle. The material is not easy. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your insight. So far an A in AP Calc BC but the year has a long way to go.

Yeah because Duke has a 50-50 male-female population, I wouldn’t imagine that girls have any kind of of boost in terms of getting in.

They definitely don’t have a 50/50 breakdown in Pratt, though–more like 2/3 male to 1/3 female. I had the exact numbers (I called) but can’t remember where I put them.

In Pratt, that makes sense. But I still don’t think girls get a boost in admissions because the skewed male to female ration can simply mean more guys have better admission stats than girls or that more guys apply in general. The SAT/ACT breakdown is probably extremely similar for guys and girls because Pratt sees highly competitive applicants and I doubt sex is what they are looking at to make their final decision.
