My friend is confused..lol he SIRed to both places and he'll call one college up on Monday to cancel.
I'm not sure how to help..any suggestions?

He's thinking of electrical engineering or BME..but mostly thinking of Electrical for MS because of the job opportunities.

I have a feeling this person is you?
Go to Duke. I was stuck in the same exact dilemma.

Many of the Ivy Leagues are a joke for anything other than liberal arts education and this is indeed the case here.

UCLA Engineering: 14
Duke Engineering: 33

Duke is more prestigious than UCLA and there are factors outside of departmental rankings but I would not hesitate to pick UCLA if the cost is cheaper. There is just nothing at Duke for your major. I*

If he wants to do biomedical engineering, Duke for sure.
Anything else: UCLA.

Also, you should consider GPA averages. GPA will be really important for grad school.
median [UCLA GPA: 3.22
median Duke University](UCLA) GPA: 3.44

But you also have to consider that Duke students are more competitive and intelligent than UCLA students so you can’t be certain you’ll perform better…
UCLA SAT: 1930
UCLA ACT: 27.5
Duke SAT: 2145
Duke ACT: 32

go to duke, you will get grade inflation…go to ucla, you will get grade deflation

@mnopp
But as I’ve pointed out, the student body at Duke is significantly stronger than that of UCLA’s. A student won’t know if his GPA will actually raise (or even lower gasp!) at Duke.
