Duke Essays

I really really want to go to Duke- Its my number 1! But I have this really outstanding essay that I want to use for their free-response essay. Will they look at this unkindly if I dont use one of their other two prompts...?

Nope. Not at all. Use that fantastic essay like you would a kleenex - thoroughly. I'm pretty sure they give you options mainly to give you some ideas if you honestly don't know what to write about.

^ nice analogy

The app says "If you have written a personal essay for another purpose-even an essay for another college-that you believe represents you, your writing, and your thinking particularly well, feel free to submit it."

I guess they want your best work and don't care where it's from. I'm planning on using an essay I wrote for another school. It will be pretty obvious where it came from.

Do any students/parents have any insight? Have people with reused essays had a lower acceptance rate?

I guess if you're going to use another school's essay, your "Why Duke" essay had better be pretty good.

No, recycled essays are fine. I submitted my JHU "What would you do with $10" as a supplement, and they didn't have a problem with it.

On the DUke supplement essays, aren't the two parts of the question asking basically the same thing? If you're applying to Trinity, then why does Duke attract you and if you're applying to Pratt, then why do you want to study at Duke. I mean, that's the same thing, right?

Doesn't it also ask why you want to study engineering in particular?

PLEASE send me your essays, just so I can read them and check them out, even if you have already sent them:

i have a question. i already submitted my application, but have this essay that i recently wrote for Lit that i really like.

Can i just send it in to duke by itself or is that not wise?

why is collegebounddesi asking in a bunch of forums to read peoples essays?

probably cause she/he wants to sell or reuse the essays for her/his own profit/benefit

collegebounddesi, if you want to read good college essays, get a book of them. Some even have admissions officers' comments.

gcards1, that email address is from the South Carolina governor's school for science and math, if that helps. I, too, am confused. And not sending any essays.

OK I am sorry everyone ! i didnt mean to be so intrusive or anything. i just asked four people (checked my inbox) to read their essays....

why? i have already sent all my essays in, i just was curious to read what others wrote. since so many ppl posted "read my essays" i thought maybe if i wrote them now they'd send me them to check out.

:) i wont resell or use these essays -- haha Jvhowube.

Well anyways, thanks, and sorry if I was being weird. Dont send any if you dont want to !
