Essays:
Commonapp - Basically I talked about how I was so wrong in thinking that all university experiences would be the same and how regretful I was that I pawned it off to the university that gave me the lowest tuition. Focuses was on how not passionate and engaging the student population and academics were at my university. Also mentioned how dissatisfied I was with the crazy faculty to student ratio (I think there’s about 600 or 700 students in my ochem class)
Supplement - One essay I talked about how Duke’s focus on interdisciplinary studies really resonates with me (I’m a computer science and biochemistry double major and am interested in computational biology or direct applications of computer paradigms in biology). Second essay (unique perspective) I talked about how my mom and I were a perfect fit. Essentially my mom never forced any views on me and always let me develop my own ideaologies and beliefs based on my experiences. I wrote about how that helped me mature and develop as my own person. Kind of weird for the prompt but I figured it met the criteria of being a unique aspect of mine and would show the committee a little more about me as a person.
Rec Letters: One from an English professor I work with for the prison projects. She let me read it and it was really amazing. We are close friends after working together. Another from an advisor, also amazing. We also got close because I came in a lot to work through credit overload petitions. Last letter was from my Engineering in Community Service instructor. I used this one as my science/math rec but it was probably oneo f the weakest points of my application. I didn’t get to read it and we weren’t close and he even attempted to dissuade me from transferring.
Hooks:
I put myself through a ridiculous workload (26 credits this semester, 24 last semester, 21 previous semester, internship, and extracurrics) to demonstrate that the academic rigor wasn’t enough at my U. I also think some of my social involvements (see prison extracurriculars) helped round me out as a person.
Admitted into Duke’s Computer Science program within the Trinity College as a junior.

I wouldn’t worry about not getting a call. Only sure signs are actual decision!

Last year they sent an email on 5/5 (Mon.) saying decisions will come out on 5/8 (Thurs.)
@jtranxferman When you got this call, was it from a number with no caller ID?
So we still don’t know when decisions will be out?

Does anyone know how many engineering transfers students does Duke accepts ?
I would not worry about it if I was you! I called them and they said they have not informed anyone of their decision over phone or in any form. So I am not sure about the guy that got a phone call. Maybe it was a special case or something, but they said all applicants would get their decision on the 14th.
that guy posted a long post on other thread about an accident that he was mistaken with a freshman applicant because they have the same name and birthday date or something. So Duke felt bad and called him to assure him. Whatever, nothing special here so please don’t freak out!

@jquery Yeah, honestly I haven’t read about anyone else ever getting a call for their decision besides me. It’s to the point where I’m worried I’m somehow delusional and dreamed it up lol.
