I know that Duke does not have an undergraduate business program, but I was wondering if I would still be able to get an on par/better business education as an economics major rather than going to USC Marshall as an undergrad business major? Thanks!
Being a business major and an economics major are two different things. One is not better or worse than the other but they are very different. Economics is a liberal arts course of study. In contrast if you attend a b-school you will take a core of business classes (ex. accounting, finance, management, IT, business law etc.) and major in a business discipline. I suggest you look at the curriculum for economics majors at Duke and business majors at USC and see which you prefer.
Studying Economics is far more rigorous than business. I am not saying you won’t have a lot of work to do as a business major, but the technical difficulty is nothing like Economics. Finance math is nothing more than what you learned in 8th grade and Accounting is simple arithmetic.
If you have a shot at Duke, you have a shot at Notre Dame or maybe even Wharton for business. At ND you cannot start business classes until sophmore year.
I think that you would.
