I really can't decide which school is best to go to. I'm looking to major in something like math/econ with the hopes of eventually going to business. Duke is probably the most presitigous of the group, but it also has a reputation for having an intense workload and very cliquey social life. I'm not neccessarily looking for people to tell me which one to choose, but if you guys could provide your own perspectives and opinions on some of the schools, it would be very helpful. Some useful topics are academic quality, job prospects, social life, friendliness/intellect of student body, and location. Thanks!

Among the three, Northwestern has the best econ program with a chance to get admitted to undergrad certificate (financial economics) program from Kellogg School of Management. To me, it has the best location--Chicago/Evanston >= DC >>> Durham (others may prefer DC over Chicago). As for friendliness of study body, I don't think one is more or less friendly than others in any particular way. They are all pretty preprofessional. But NU's student body is probably a bit more diverse (less the same preppy type) with plenty artsy/creative type because of the communication and music schools.

For all the good things I've heard about Northwestern, I've also heard its social scene is lacking. I've heard that the quarter system means more work and alot more exams. The student body is great, but there just isn't much going on, and in reality, students don't venture out to Chicago all that much. I'd have to hear some more opinions about the social scene at NU?

"and in reality, students don't venture out to Chicago all that much."

-That completely depends on the student. I go to Chicago all the time.

This is all news to me.

As for the q system - there are actually a lot of good things about it.
