(Does Michigan have a live mascot or ?)

It’s funny that people always cry foul about Duke’s student-athletes. In 2009, Duke placed the most student-athletes on the ACC Academic Honor Roll with 418 selections. The requirements for being named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll are: a) 3.00 gpa for the full academic year and b) a cumulative 3.0 gpa over his or her academic career. This is the 21st time in the past 22 years that Duke has earned this honor. In fact, Duke had a streak of 20 straight years until it was broken in 2008, with Duke losing to BC by 1 selection. Let’s look at the breakdown:

In individual sports, Duke placed the most student-athletes on the following teams: Women’s Tennis, Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Lacrosse, Baseball, and Men’s Basketball. Also, Duke tied for placing the most student-athletes on the Men’s Tennis and Men’s Soccer teams.

UNC placed the most student-athletes in only one sport - Women’s Soccer; they also tied for the most placed in Women’s Golf and Men’s Golf. Also note that UNC placed ZERO student athletes in Men’s Tennis.

Duke (418), 2. BC (392), 3. UNC (276), 4. Maryland (271), 5. UVa (224), 6. Clemson (209), 7. Virginia Tech (190), 8. NC State (178), 9. Georgia Tech (175), 10. Florida State (165), 11. Wake Forest (146), 12. Miami (128)

Of the 12 schools, only two (Duke and UVa) are ranked among the top 25 Universities in the country and the top 100 Universities in the world. Of the 12 schools, only one is ranked among the top 10 Universities in the country and the top 15 Universities in the world …and that’s Duke, who not ironically, leads the ACC in Academic Selections.

Duke is getting it done in the classroom AND on the playing field. Rather than worrying about if Duke’s student-athletes are qualified for Duke, maybe you should look at your own schools and athletic programs and ask if your “student”-athletes are even qualified for your “university.” It’s pretty sad that you have “student”-athletes who can’t even muster a 3.0 at a school that’s not ranked. The lowest ranked school should have the most selections; however, year after year, the highest ranked school has the most selections. Certainly makes a mockery of the term “student”-athletes…

Classroom? Yes. Playing field? Not a chance-at least not in the sports that matter.

Michigan has a long tradition of NOT having a live mascot. I believe there once was a live wolverine in a cage, but you can imagine how that wouldn’t work out!

I can’t wait until Bama gets a real, live Elephant on the field. Move over Big Al.

That would be so freaking awesome, haha.

that’s sad when fball players score higher than bball players. don’t fball players get brain damage from all those hits. i gotta questions duke academics…
