Duke or Cornell Science and engineering

My cousin at caltech is telling me that Cornell is a lot more respected in the engineering and science community. I think Duke would be fun because of the sports but is the fun worth the scientific and engineering prestige? help me?!

thanks!

^ I think Cornell’s prestige for engineering over Duke’s is only evident in postgrad education.
For undergrad engineering, Duke and Cornell are really neck-and-neck.
I would say choose base of fit.

Cornell is not devoid of sports, it’s just that they are more enthusiastic about hockey instead of basketball.

Seems like I just posted this someplace else:
[YouTube - Cornell vs Harvard 2003](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q43q9xKsO50&feature=related)
They also have a large intramural sports program.

As for engineering, suggest go to each registrar’s course listings and count the number of courses being given this semester in engineering at each college. That will give an idea of the relative breadth and depth of what you can learn at each institution; what sub-areas are available to be pursued there, should you become interested in them down the road.

Then ask the schools to give you details of on-campus engineering recruiting, for engineering jobs by engineering companies, at each school. How many firms came to campus to interview for engineering jobs last year, etc. It would not surprise me if there was some difference, and also if there was some geographic influence in recruiting.
